Only Four Years To Go
There are around 26 million people in the UK aged 50 and over (which I believe is the target age group for vaccinations at least initially). This week 130,000 (0.5%) of that number were vaccinated. So, only two years of faffing about opening and closing businesses to go!

Doing everyone else is a bonus. it's like the flu vaccine it would be ideal to do everyone but not cost effective as the average person is not at serious health risk. The aim to do almost everyone is to try to do a host eradication. If no one provides host capability then the virus dies out in the population. 're introduction due to travel means we will always be at risk from very different strains hence the suggestion repeat modified vaccines may be needed .
Oh Tora it is a bit of a blur but I went in at 1.30 and was out at 2.05. I think I went into 4 different rooms, 1st for sanitisation, then another for form filling (at least two) especially medical history and any allergies, then before you see the doctor all forms are checked and signed, then Doc checks your form before jab is given. Finally after the jab you sit and wait in another room for 15 minutes in case of any side effects and if OK, that's it. Finished. All friendly and efficient.
My question was very much tongue in cheek as I didn't expect the first week to be representative. However, ladybirder's report disturbs me. Thirty-five minutes to administer a jab seems a trifle excessive and it must be possible to reduce that time somewhat. Hopefully the "waiting time" to check for adverse reactions should be reduced for those having their second shot. But administrative tasks should be streamlined and possibly undertaken remotely so that patients are not gumming up the space needed to actually do the business.
I said a few weeks ago that I hoped the majority of the programme would be undertaken by a body other than the NHS. I thought the army was being enlisted. As Peter says, even at a million a week, that's still a year.
