This 'guess' at what Biden may do is at least an improvement on the 'progressive taxation' sham of the USA. ( and Britain )
Long way to go unfortunately.

ynnafymmi: "^Whats that got to do with your tax query? " - try reading the thread, at 11:50: I wrote in response to jim; ".....I'm interested to see if and how he tackles their 2 biggest problems; healthcare and gun ownership." - at 15:52 TonyV wrote: "TTT don't think there will be any gun law changes, Americans see it as a right to carry arms. Isn't it written into the constitution? I find it amusing / distressing that you can go to Walmart, do your weekly shop and pick up a gun on your way to checkout. " - My answers at 15:55 and 15:59 were about those posts if that's ok with you.
No probs,old boy.Carry on regardless...
does this have any relevance to us in dear old blighty?
// if and how he tackles their 2 biggest problems; healthcare and gun ownership.//

are not to my mind fiscal questions - like you know, shall I increase Fed income tax or shall we start taxing capital gains

but that's me
TTT //bhg: "I've got no aversion to tax so long as it's spent on the right things." - essentially that means things you agree with.//

Isn't that what democracy is all about? At election time I vote for the party that says it will spend tax-money in the way that I think is best. Being a believer in democracy, if more people think another way is better and their preference becomes policy then I live by their rules and wait for the next election.
The gun lobby has a massive political power, due the massive amount of money they pay (sorry donate) to certain politicians who will fight their corner.

yes but does any government only spend on things you/me/anyone agrees with? I vote Tory but I don't agree with a whole load of things they spend on but that's just what's still on the list that they inherit and haven't changed, same with any government.
True, TTT, but democracy means you take the rough with the smooth after choosing what you think is the best option. There seems to be a lot of people who think that democracy means you get what you vote for; it isn't true.
TTT,
In 2016 the US electorate were offered generous tax cuts by Trump. Which led to him borrowing $8 Trillion to make the country work.
Biden is asking Americans to pay for services to Americans, not live beyond their means on credit.
It is sometimes necessary to increase tax... some voters understand that, some don't, and some do understand it but don't want to anyway.
// I vote Tory but I don't agree with a whole load of things they spend on //
my god dont we know that !

fill the hospitals and let them die in the streets
is being run at present and is unpopular
so it is time for a change - reminds me of FDR displacing Coolidge

why are we discussing fiscal policy in the land of the free?

One of the academics I admire, Thomas So well argues for lowering the tax rates for the rich, to increase the total tax collected.
I agree with him.
Biden should go after evasion and avoidance.
Sowell
When you give massive hand outs to the super rich as Trump “man of the people” did all you do is encourage them to sequester the loot in off shore accounts etc.
Rarely does much of it come back into the economy
The figures don't lie.
"why are we discussing fiscal policy in the land of the free?"

Because ToraToraTora does not wish to discuss the attack on the US congress
