Sorry no link - I'm wondering if I heard right. Radio 5 live just said Trump is to be impeached. Will this make a martyr of him with his supporters ?

I read that Mike Pence won't evoke 25th Amendment as it would mean that he would become President for the remaining days. As he is considering running for President in 2024 he is concerned that he will not be able to serve for 2 terms as being President for the remaining days would count as one term.

That is not the case. Any period of less than two years does not count as a term. Johnson became president in 1963 on Kennedy's assassination. He won in his own right in 1964 and could have run again in 1968 but decided not to, mainly because of Vietnam.

The Republican strategists, the people who wrote Trump's autocue speech, are figuring out the way to behave to give them the best chance of winning in 2024. It looks at present like that does not involve throwing Trump and his cohort under the bus. But Pence is definitely damaged goods ... they must surely be able to come up with a better candidate over the next four years.

the dems can bring the charges but the reps will block conviction ( er determination ) in the senate.

Biden has said that it is not the function of an incoming president to bring about the impeachment of the sitting president ( he is correct in this)
Biden said it was the function of congress to do so ( and clearly thought they had something better to do

Pence who DOES have a role may facilitate as he was present in the Capitol whilst they ran froo da corridors shouting - "hang the traitor!"

His displeasure as VP was clearly transmitted to the President

hang the traitor and not lynch as I suspect lynch is only used in the land of the free when you hang a black man without trial ( and not just anyone like a VP)

Who would Trump run for? The Republicans won't touch him, and there's no way he'd get enough votes as an independent. In fact, he'd probably split the Rep vote so much as to leave the Democrats with an easy win.
