Interestingly we know someone who was laid up in bed late Dec 2019 with covid like symptoms.... and.... he had just come back from business trip to .... yup WUHAN !
When covid “broke” U.K. shores / news he called his dr to tell him he’d been ill with similar in the Dec after his trip to Wuhan but apparently was dismissed.

I've had 'flu once and rarely get a cold. This illness lasted most of January and was my lifetime's share of 'flu, coughs and colds in one go.
It took both of us a very long time to feel fully recovered and I know there are others who were the same.

There's a good documentary on BBC about what the Chinese knew and what they didn't tell the world, it's pretty shocking seeing as where the world is now with it.
Regarding 'reported cases' in China, the 'confirmation' of a case this could only be done at a high up government level in Beijing, not at the hospitals where they were detecting the cases. So although there were many 'reported' cases by the hospitals, there were only a ridiculously low number of 'confirmed' cases.

I've mentioned this before. A friend and his partner were on a cruise in Dec. and almost everyone on board came down with a terrible virus. He says he has never felt so ill. His partner works for traffic police so was tested earlier than most (not having suffered any illness since cruise) and proved to have antibodies to covid19. It has been officially reported.
Another friend became ill in mid-Jan. with what she described as the worst ever virus. This was the last Sat. in Jan when she was determined to get to 'Coffee,Cake & a Chat' morning. Everyone told me she looked terrible. Admitted to hospital Monday, pneumonia developed that evening, sepsis followed on Wednesday and she died on Thursday. Had been a healthy 75 yr. old before then. Sounds rather like Covid to us all now - but no-one else got it because she was keeping away from direct contact with others. Her husband has not been at all ill.
It seems that Covid has been loose much longer than we were told.

I ditched a longer contribution on the subject
did anyone die? and yup see above - not so much serology but there were dead people involved shows it is a true bill
the cruise where everyone went bleeeeuch and then stepped onto the dockside and went bleeeegh again - if there were not deaths was more likely to be norovirus
Am I saying that a cruise where all the many and various 80 y olds go bleeeech and no one dies CAN'T be covid ?
yeah I am actually
and Jourdain - did anyone from the coffee morning get it?
amazing if no one did
( here no coffee mornings, few bank robberies, and two deaths)

Last week in Feb Egypt I got gout ( systemically - temp etc) and I thought they thought I was gonna die ( but I didnt)
and on the As-sarah, the tourists DID start dying and the boat was tied up outside Luxor for two weeks and allowed to burn out. the disease that is. Reported in their local press ( Times of India) which I cant now find, but I think 7 /21 died. Bang Bang - armed men outside. Didnt stop the spread to Luxor of course

earliest case - can be judged on 1) time and the2) RNA sequence - with the changes, you can say A begets B which begat C
I am not sure what the significance is - impt for the Chinee govt to say "not us" whereas even if it found in Tutankhamum mummy ( nefertitt I think geddit) the ourbreak started with many cases and deaths at Wuhan
and not civitavecchia or wherever

a chinee with a snardy nose with make not a ha'porth of difference
but does allow us to indulge in the fave AB sport of x-phobia
are we talking earliest Brit case or earliest Wuhan case? or bofe
One of the big mistakes in retro was thinking that isolation worked really well - whch it did in SARS
