Sorry. I mistakenly thought you meant direct taxes, income tax and so on.

The easy way to avoid such charges is to resist buying stuff from abroad. However, bear in mind that trade with the EU was by no means "free". The country paid about £10bn a year for the privilege. Instead of everybody paying that sum through general taxation the government is now collecting it and keeping it for use in the UK.

In any case, my decision to vote to leave, as I've said before, was to do with more than just trade. It's no great shakes to pay an extra few quid for purchases and if it frees us from the shenanigans of the Euromaniacs (adequately demonstrated a couple of weeks ago) it's money well spent.

An it still is. There's no reason why Brexit will alter that - unless the EU makes such trade impossible or too inconvenient.

I didn't know there was any begging going on. I believe we've applied to join. This makes sense because if trade with the EU declines (which it looks like it will if they continue with their nonsense) then we'll trade elsewhere. The Asian and Pacific market is growing considerably (for everybody); the European market is in decline (for everybody - including the Europeans). We'd join a European trading bloc if a suitable one existed, but it doesn't.

It's either tax or excise. When I asked you what I'd said about tax I assumed (wrongly) you meant I'd commented about direct taxes (such as Income Tax and NI).

Whoever you work for has had four years to make adjustments to their business to accommodate Brexit. They should have assumed that we would leave with no deal. If they can no longer trade they either haven't made the necessary adjustments or their business is not viable outside the EU. The country cannot be expected to remain inside a political bloc which is totally unsuitable for the UK in order to sustain a relatively small number of businesses which either cannot or will not adapt. It's most unfortunate if you lose your job but you cannot expect the country to divert from its chosen path. Things change and we have to change with them.

Arrods - others have told me the same. I have no regrets about voting for Brexit. The complications are due to the EU being as obstructive as possible in order to a)punish the UK and b) make life so difficult as to embolden a 'return' lobby. They were aided and abetted by May and her cohorts who encouraged these delusions.
