It takes a while but gets there in the end. Truth that is. On Friday the Senate eagerly voted to allow further testimony and to hear the new and exciting "witnesses" that had "decided" to now come forward and answer "questions". OK said Michael van der Veen, one of the lawyers for former President Donald Trump. We will call some as well. They firstly then...

Evil man.
Congratulations for managing to bring the SNP into it - again.

I believe only 8 senators have ever voted against party lines in an impeachment trial - 7 yesterday and 1 last time :-)

I thought Mitch McConnell's speech held together quite well: it was pretty damning and possibly paves the way for a criminal rather than a political trial.
I am still smiling at the assertion Trump cracked down on the nutters in society. I suppose in a way it's true. Thanks to him, many are now awaiting trial. Apparently the lawyer for the horned one is claiming his client feels badly let down by the ex-President, and I think he has a point.
@09.26.Gully.Who-Trump or Salmond...or both....
@09.26.Ichy.Well Trump is half-Scottish and is a nationalist,Salmond is totally Scottish and he is also a nationalist.
The 'insurrection' (Biden's claim) was about a stolen election. If the election was not stolen, where is the tangible proof of hordes of electors praising their leader Biden? Democrat electors are represented by a fleet of identical showroom USVs or acres of flags at the inauguration. Whereas Trump can drum up tangible crowds for his support.

The election was stolen utilising votes from the deceased to support Democrats. To date Biden hasnt addressed a crowd but only broadcasts to tv cameras. covering Whitehouse lawns with valentine hearts does not bind the people. Biden now has the nuclear code - gawd help us!
// The 'insurrection' (Biden's claim) was about a stolen election. //

nope nope and nope - which is not bad for one sentence!

Biden has kept out of it on the grounds it is a waste of time when he wished to get on with governing the Land of the Free

I thought even Trump agreed there were his supporters in the Capitol but he did NOT sent them

and "stolen election"
implies that it was certain that something has been unlawfully taken. It is not certain. It may well have been straightforward
( existential implication.... fr'instance if you say - "why do you deny God exists?" there is already an implication God exists.....)

other than that
I can't find much wrong with the first sentence.....OK really
// I thought Mitch McConnell's speech held together quite well: //

I was impressed and disgusted by the central dichotomy.
Mitch has voted to acquit and then came right out with
well he was guilty

the chaos is down to you and your ilk Mitch
A fella does something and you say in one place - he didnt do it.
and right outside in another place - you say he did !

I am not sure how long you would lst in english politics - like Bliar - thrity years?
Well it seems he was a good guy after all. Either that or perhaps the majority of Republican senators lack integrity

OK said Michael van der Veen, one of the lawyers for former President Donald Trump. We will call some as well. They firstly then subpoenaed Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Washington D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser, perhaps to confirm that Trump had offered in advance to place 10,000 National Guard personnel there and they refused his assistance. Pretty soon no more evidence was required and the charade was quickly terminated. Michael van der Veen's home and office have since been attacked and vandalised by peaceful protesters and champions of democracy.
Trump, Boris, and Salmond. The three just men .
Either just jumping out of bed or just jumping into bed, but not always with their wives.
The farce is strong in this one.^^
Then there's Macron to add to the pile!
Trump, if he avoids jail, will become an eccentric political agitator of the far right. In fact pretty much as he’s been for the last few years. Just without the high office. But if he remains a Republican that will only split the party. I suspect he won’t.
Jail for what, getting jobs back for the working class?
That's the trouble with you lot living in Canada, Sanmac.....far too laid back... ;-)
He won't remain a Republican Ich. He will create the MAGA cult party as a means of making money from vulnerable fools and to feed his ego. The Republican vote will still be split, if he ever gets as far as standing in an election.
fiveleaves - // Well it seems he was a good guy after all. //

That is easily the most naive and uneducated post about Donald Trump I have ever read.
The aquittal was always a foregone conclusion - Republicans who have their eye on the next elections are never going to put realism anc concience above party politics.

I think everyone knew that this would never fly, and I suggest that the only reason the impeachment process was started was so that the 'twice impeached' label will attach itself to Trump should he try and run again.

Of course he was not found guilty, but that's still a label that will seriously dent his chances in 2024 if he tries again.

Trump wll see it as a vindication, and that it adds even more fuel to his martyr's pile, but hopefully reality will continue to be at least an influence in American politics.

And, Mr Hughes, that is the most inept reading of a very perceptive and nicely put comment that I've ever seen.

Read the whole of the post and tell me I'm wrong (PS - I'm not).
You are quite right, I didn't read the post correctly and I would wish to withdraw my comment and offer my apologies to fiveleaves for my misinterpretation of his point.
