Easing Of Lockdown.

Ahead of the govt announcemnet today, I give you this quote from The Sunday Times of Feb 14th:
"The deaths from Covid have been, across the year, not much more than double the number of excess winter deaths in a bad flu year. We impose no restrictions on the population for seasonal flu, but close society down entirely for Covid. That makes little logical sense. Still less when you add in the 225,000 operations cancelled as a consequence of lockdown.
By the end of this month, the NHS will be under scarcely any greater pressure than it is normally at the beginning of March, given the decrease in infections. The elderly will have been vaccinated.
So who, exactly, is it that we're protecting? Is the plan to create a country in which people die happily of many things, as they always have, but never, mercifully, of Covid"
No mention either of the billions paid out in fraudulent business claims during lockdown. Money that should have gone to the NHS in the first place.
The figures are as high as they are BECAUSE of the govt and "the science", not IN SPITE of them.
But if everyone is happy to continue in lockdown, then stay in lockdown. If everyone believes all the publicity and propaganda from the govt, then stay with it. You think you know it makes sense. Don't you? Apart from that, everything's fine thanks. :o)

the thesis is Dougie Spiegelhalter's - prof of stats who was 'on' for hack-whizz for science of the year award. He said that the curves of dead people exactly followed each other - overlay in fact. Apr 2020
this was taken to mean flu=covid by just about everyone. The only thing was that the mortuaries were full - of dead people! lots of them ! you know fridges so full they couldnt close the doors ! Something was wrong but Doug did not see the storm clouds gathering.
After a lot of back stage biting scratching and hair pulling, Dougie came out looking - - bedraggled and said he wished to be clear. More clear. The curves overlay each other, and so you had to ADD one curve to the other and SUM the curves- and double it and that was the situation in 2020. Two times everything - and it was pretty obvious to him that that was what he meant in the first place.
There was a certain amount of jeering and disbelief at all this - there is a blardy great hump of dead people which even Dougie cdnt miss. But it is still around and gets periodic outings and is now greeted with the comment " we know this is wrong"
Anyway our Doug is back on track and blaarting to the media
on anything
Last week it was sending kids back to skool and selling fish to the French. Versatile man. He is a prof of stats for chrissakes. No he is a much quoted media goo-roo

Thanks for all the replies folks. Just a couple of things:
1. No-one has addressed the issue of fraudulent business claims, as covered by the BBC 6 O'Clock News on Thursday Feb 4th. Billions wasted. And more expense to try and recover the money.
2. The daily death and infection rate is an exggeration at best and lies at worst.
Why would this be so? I have to say, I don't know but would only guess that it is meant to be alarmist in order to frighten the nation into compliance. If that is the case, then judging by some of the replies on here, it's worked a treat.
Thanks again for the replies folks.

No it isn’t. Covid shortens people’s lives, just as flu does and pneumonia. 120,000 have died from covid. It could be argued that if covid hadn’t appeared then 20,000 of those would have died of flu instead. But that isn’t much of an Argument. Flu costs the nation £Billions every year, and millions of people are vaccinated against that. But it is expected and we can plan and budget for it. Covid took us by surprise and we have to find extra money and resources. Stopping the pandemic is more an economic aim than a health one.
