The way I look at it, I can understand businesses & shops wanting to protect their customers, but to me the unvaccinated are taking the biggest risk.

NJ, to repeat a point I made the other day: UK GDP fell 9.9% last year. NZ GDP fell 2.2% for the September-September year. And they've managed to keep the death toll to two figures rather than six.

It depends whether you want to restrict your population to remaining in their home country and want to close your shores to allcomers. My desire for a decent economy I think is not quite as strong as my desire to travel. I'll worry about the UK's GDP when Covid has been accepted as endemic. It seems NZ may not ever accept that.
they're vaccinating everyone and have a functioning test and trace system, so they're able to deal with outbreaks. Apparently they're going to trial a vaccine passport as well

and that explains why the UK death toll is 4500 times bigger? Pull the other one.
I used NZ as a comparator because it's English-speaking and so a place the British might think similar. Australia would do as well. But if you think population density is a big factor, maybe you can tell me why Britain's death toll is 16 times as big as that of Japan, an island nation of similar size and population. In effect, for every Japanese who dies, 16 Brits die. And their economy shrank 4.8%, just half as much as Britain's.
The truth is, Britain has screwed up from the beginning but insists it can't possibly be compared with any other country, precisely because it is so utterly... incomparable.

alas no, TTT. In fact if things had gone as planned I would have been visiting friends in NZ a year ago and would have been "trapped" there; but family illness prevented me from going and it now seems impossible.
But the plain truth is, like it or not, I would be much safer there, and so would you; you could have a beer at the pub, watch a rugby match in person and in a full crowd, send the kids to school, and get your hair cut. All possible there for most of the past year, all off limits here.

But you can look at the BBC website there if not use iPlayer and, as I found years ago, get treated free in hospitals via a reciprocal arrangement with the UK. However, that isn't the norm, you usually have to pay to see a GP and pay for hospital treatment.

the NHS has its own recommendations ( you have to have Hep B vacca before being employed). Partially as a run in I had with them in 2000 when they were revised. I was told I was going to be outed to the board of non medics for not having Hep B vacc and they wd decide the condign punishment to be meted out. I said to the med director who was gonna tell, that I cdnt as I was off for a year having treatment for cancer. He surprisingly said - "that is no concern of mine" and I alleged breach of confidentiality ( on his behalf of my medical details )
I am much calmer now
The agreed upshot was that co-ercion in the NHS should never be used to enforce vacca but persuasion shd be carried out almost to the very end. Note this was employees and not applicants. it seems pretty clear that you can demand vacca as a prerequisite to employing
and the doo-man-day? You only need to show 5 ng/ml Hep antibody once in your life and that covers you for ever. Keep the blood form safe! And I had. They should have known this as I was done at work.

So for example when schools were shut we didnt count the salary of teachers, and when cancer treatments were posponed that counted as lost 'output'. There was a good program on BBC radio about it. When adjusted to compere like with like we didnt do as bad but yes we still been hit more.
