The function of schools is to educate its pupils and prepare them for live beyond education. If they are going to earn a living and make a contribution to the society in which they live they will be surprised to find that it often means complying with terms and conditions with which they may not necessarily agree but which they have to swallow in order to earn a...

Not justified in my opinion, should do as they are told and then live their lives as they see fit when schooldays are over.

New Judge: Thank you for that. Spot on.
Realistically, it doesn't work like that, nj. Children still become well aware who is richer or poorer. It makes much more sense to teach children that behaviour is more important than appearance- as that's what they need when they are older.
Look at every adult who wears a suit for work- which of those professions would you say were totally trustworthy? It is not about clothes.
BA... sometimes AB should be renamed as "Land of the Dinosaur" :-)

This came up yesterday but the woman who's the CEO of the Runnymede Trust is Dr. Halima Begum. She said today that the racism report was a 'whitewash'. I have no idea if she understands the term irony.
If they want change they should go to a different school. Conforming to rules is part of life. Get on with it.
When a Head teacher has lost the confidence of his staff and children with documented medical notes are sent home for the wrong footwear (amongst other issues) something has gone wrong.

A pithy round up of all that was and still should be may be an excellent reply but it's not a solution.
But life is not just about doing what you are told. It's also sometimes about standing up for things - or indeed for other people.

If life was about confirming and obeying all the time then this country would be a much worse place.
Ah no. Let's just pretend modern generations have no idea. Much easier... :-)
Also the protests are not against uniforms per se (at least so far as I can see)... it is about changes to the uniform rules which they consider unjust.
^and the rest.

I did.
Oh I see you meant the union flag part of it too. Yes and that, which I discussed on page 1.
Yes indeed - no black in the Union Jack - and no fuss over black lives matter and black history month either. Seems to me what they’re really saying is ‘We’re not white so we should do as we like’.
It's not clear whether or not that graffiti was written by protesting students or not (the "no black in the union jack" soundbite is a longstanding racist slogan).

The main issue that set all this off seems to be the uniforms though... so I don't agree that that is their message.
"who are these people? " - the ones this post is about, the ones that think they are exempt from the rules. Sorry if that's to difficult to grasp.
"Yes indeed - no black in the Union Jack" - but there is some blue, those damn blue people getting special treatment!
That doesn’t surprise me but I wonder why the placement of the Union flag caused concern - or why these Muslim girls consider brightly coloured clothing part of their religion. First I’ve heard of it. Yet another charge of racism without justification.
