schools, parents, can teach that all they like. it makes no difference. children are cruel beggars, they will pick on the one that's different. whether that's because their trainers don't have the right letter on them, or if the little crocodile logo on their top faces the wrong way, or if they got their glasses from somewhere other than barnard castle. it doesn't matter. if the kid doesn't conform, they will get picked on.

Is a school classed differently to the workplace? The reason I ask is that we have uniform at work which includes religious wear, all of which is grey/black. Maybe local uniform retailers should work with schools to cater for and incorporate religious wear into their products.

if some have hijabs that are brightly coloured, have they been asked not to wear them - same with some afro caribbean hairstyles, have they been told to tone them down, if so maybe as said the pupils have some points. But honestly to take it this far, seems the height of stupidity. Is this another storm in a teacup.

Schools in my town have hijabs in school colours.

The amount of time and effort those go to to tame,flatten and scrape back afro hair has been well documented for quite some time, my own fair haired daughter got sent home for an extreme hairstyle when all she had done was have a trim which brought her inherited curls springing into view.
