Rubbish

This has been happening all week now. Why can't people take their rubbish home and dispose of it in responsibly? Is it because they are too pished or because the don't give a tiny rats derriere?

Disgusting behaviour but I suppose another way to look at it is it's keeping park cleaners in work.

i saw this earlier, disgusting behaviour, i would say most are young adults out for a party, with no thought for those who have to clean up after these litter louts, same with the parks that were overflowing with people, they just left their detritus behind.

its vey sad indeed, i wonder if there were any bins near by, and why could they not take there rubbish with them, then dispose correctly.
i did hear some younger people say once, it gives someone a job.

They do it because they can. There is little to no enforcement and no effective penalties anyway. Why would you bother to take your rubbish away with you when you can simply leave it where it is?

Most of the stuff in that photo is packaging of things that people eat or drink whist out and about. Street eating has to be one of the great plagues of our time. It causes litter, encourages vermin and creates scenes such as this. No amount of "education" will cure the problem. You shouldn't need to be told not to leave your rubbish in the street. The only solution is effective enforcement and harsher penalties - neither of which is likely to be forthcoming any time soon.

They discard waste without a thought for others because..firstly - they can as NJ says but secondly - because no one has been bothered to bring them up properly with respect and consideration for others.

Litter and rubbish on the streets is nothing new. I remember as a kid in the 60's turd hopping every time you went out.

I doubt that there is one simple answer to it. Today we have the compounded problem of plastic packaging as NJ has pointed out.

I do think sometimes the councils have a part to play in this - provide the bins and empty them.

What really bugs me about it is that most of the rubbish is recyclable and it's the generation we're trying to save the planet for that can't be bothered. I sometimes wonder why I go to the trouble of taking my recycling seriously.

They are bone idle and just can’t be bothered to take their rubbish home or dispose of it responsibly. It’s ok saying clearing it up gives jobs but the money doing that would be better used elsewhere.

Er, none? At a guess ...
It's a tricky one. Stiffer penalties are all very well, but it's one of those offences where almost by definition you'll never catch the person who's done it. Not sure what the answer is.

I agree 100% with mallyj, people do this because they have never been told not to do it by soft parenting who don't think it's important.

I would go ape if my kids left rubbish behind. It just wouldn't be tolerated.

I used to live facing a school playing field. The children (10-16) would always leave their rubbish on the field after lunch. I asked the school why they didn't make them pick the rubbish up - answer 'Unless we actually see them drop it we can't make them pick it up'!!!!! That was about 10 years ago. When I were a lass we never left litter, and still don't.

It's another example of mob-mentality, isn't it? I would imagine that many people in that crowd who contributed to this mess would not, if they were by themselves, have strewn their garbage around.
