And why would Anne ever contribute to an actual OP instead of attacking the poster or posters? IMHO TTT I would be quite happy for the Scottish to go. It would be sad but if thats what they really want then fine by me. Those that like the UK are more than welcome to move to another part of the UK before the split as far as I am concerned. Of course any split must mean that...

"the Sky News poll found that support for a referendum is now equally tied 50-50, once "don't knows" are excluded, down from 51-49 in the last Opinium poll."
It is - but the two are not mutually exclusive in terms of political point-scoring.

It does seem from the British perspective that Ms Sturgeon and her party nurture an obsession with independence that William Wallace wold envy - but it may not actually be reflected in the wants and desires of the electorate.

In the same way that Boris Johnson likes cycling, and seriously believes that the rest of the country fnd it as fascinating as he does - wtih attendent dewey-eyed responses to the miles of cycle lanes being pointlessly painted on the roads ad pavements of UK cities, Ms Sturgeon is in danger of missing the point that, because she wants independence, she is unable to appreciate anyone else who doesn't.

It may yet be her downfall, as she increasingly becomes a party leader with only one obsession, and that obsession is not going to be refleceted the voting behaviour of the people who have put her part in power - and may not wish to leave it there anymore.
TCL. Don’t be ridiculous. Why would ttt read the full piece of journalism . He’s a headline boy. ( only large print readable )

anne try reading the piece:
"If the SNP win an overall majority on Thursday, the proportion who want a second independence referendum within five years - within the life of the next Scottish parliament - is 42%, down seven points since last month."

Of course any split must mean that debt is apportioned (agreed prior to a vote so the UK doesnt get caught up in the mess financially), all MOD work is moved South immediately, the Barnett formual is scrapped and nothing goes North of the bordere hand out wise and they accept ther is no coming back.

They are quite welcome to use the £ so long as they accept they have no input into any UK fiscal policy, they simply use it to transact business.
TORATORATORA, those who read the piece will be aware you have given only one result from the poll but it doesn't hurt to make that fact clear by quoting an additional result.

Only 1015 people were surveyed out of a population of 4 million.
Aye and if Scotland does get independence, then us in the north and south of Scotland will want to get our independence also, and reunite with our friends in the rest of Britain.Us in working parts of Scotland dont want to pay for the workshy Weegies and Dundonians for ever more.Let them pay for their independence dreams/nightmares themselves,i certainly dont intend to.
That sounds an excellent idea ynnafymmi.
Adding all those who said there should be a referendum in the event of an SNP majority brings the total to 60% in favour.
I just cant see Bojo allowing a legal referendum, anyway.Once in a generation according to Salmond, once in a lifetime according to Sturgeon. An illegal referendum would be heavily boycotted and the result nullified.
JD, how about having a much larger and simpler survey in Scotland, a few million for example and ask if they want independence?
// Adding all those who said there should be a referendum in the event of an SNP majority brings the total to 60% in favour. //

that sounds a bit like the three-fifths of five eighths of nerf all argument used by remainers to suggest anyone who didn't vote should be counted as a "remain".......
A survey of a few million, even George Gallup would have problems with that...and how to interpret the results.

YMB 15:13, bang on, that's how I see it, if they want to go their own way it means exactly that.
When I was suggesting a survey of a few million with fewer questions, I had a referendum in mind...
If they don't want a referendum then they probably shouldn't vote for the party that is promising one!
