sadly at least for those of us who live in the capital, this is not surprising, there is almost one protest after another here, i don't venture far these days, in part of because of these types of demonstrations Having watched the video a number of times, i am deeply sickened by the hatred that came out of these mens mouths. London is the dumping ground for the...
Emmie, yes I do live in the capital.
Returning to the OP, I don't think that this incident should be called a demonstration or protest, it was apparently a bunch of thugs being disgusting. It's not uncommon for thugs to go around shouting and being disgusting- it's what they do. You shouldn't use such behaviour to try to prevent people from expressing their views in a peaceful way. Of course, peaceful demonstrations are often hijacked by thugs, but that's another matter.
Thanks. I know the history of the formation of modern Israel. I would not call 73 years ago "the recent past". There are few people alive today who were old enough to understand the ins and outs of that event.
Present day UK is not responsible for the recent events in Israel. The people there need to get a grip and sort themselves out. Lobbing bombs and rockets at each other is not the way to do it and nothing the UK tells either side will cut any ice. Nor will marching down Oxford Street or abusing Jews in Finchley.
The culprits are undoubtedly born on these shores, so not sure where we could deport them to if we wanted to.
While saying nasty things is not good, I’m not sure it merits being removed to another country.
Saying something not nice out of a moving car window is a tad anti social, it is hardly a heinous crime. Deporting anyone for such a minor breach is a huge over reaction.
//The culprits are undoubtedly born on these shores,...//
Undoubtedly?
The ONS estimates that between 2015 and 2019 an average of 1,800 Palestinians arrived to settle in the UK in each of those years. Of course the culprits may not be Palestinians. But that's not "undoubtedly" either.
> I would not call 73 years ago "the recent past".
It's recent in terms of the age of our country. Most events in our history were long before any of us were alive. Not this one.
> There are few people alive today who were old enough to understand the ins and outs of that event.
Again, the point is that the country was responsible. This is why we continue to get dragged in to the politics of the region. For example this, written by Boris Johnson on the 100th Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, four years ago when he was Foreign Secretary:
You haven't called out the scumbags either, Roy. Perhaps because the thread has moved on from then.
I'm happy to go back to the start, call the perpetrators scumbags, point out that they were probably born here, and that even if they could be sent away, the idea of deporting a Palestinian from Britain to a homeland that Britain played such a leading role in removing is ironic to the point of tragic farce.
Push comes to shove, you can't kick people out of the country if this is their country of origin. I believe Australia have stopped taking our reprobates. These scumbags should be arrested and prosecuted like any other UK criminal.
fcc, //But if they were born here what's happening in gaza/israel should be of no conern to them.//
But it is their concern in the same way as the election of Khan as Mayor of London was cause for celebration in Pakistan, and 9/11 cheered in the mountains of Afghanistan …. even though the celebrants had little idea where New York is. It’s the nature of the beast.
Naomi is right. Let's be honest, the US election had no impact on us, but plenty of people delighted/despaired in the result. People take notice of world events whether they are directly affected by them or not.
// if they were born here what's happening in gaza/israel should be of no conern to them. //
Of course it should. If should concern everyone because hundreds of innocent people are being killed and property destroyed, simply for not being Israeli.
There is no such thing as a "The right not to be inconvenienced or annoyed"... free assembly though is a basic cornerstone of a free society... if you don't like it then a less free one might be more to your liking.
