I know there isn't. But there should be. It would help me come round to your point of view if you could explain to me what people who march down the streets with banners and slogans hope to achieve. It would also help if you could give me some examples where non-violent protest (the only variation which is allowed under the law) met those aims.

In recent history? Not very much admittedly... you have me there. Even so, I do not think it would be acceptable to simply ban all public protests... for one thing, they would continue happening anyway and thus the police would be forced to constantly "crack down" on citizens peacefully (and annoyingly) expressing their views - which is not very consistent with a democratic state, would harm the UK's image as a free society and would be an even worse waste of police resources than what happens now. I also think it is simply immoral to ban free expression that does not incite hatred or violence...
these protests rarely end peacefully, and they DO interfere with daily life for many. The last one has disgusting comments about Jews, and so forth, i know the men have been caught and bailed, but watch them walk off with no more than a slap on the wrist. I don't want to witness such offerings. Once one could go to Hyde Park and expound on a soapbox, now its every time there is some upset around the world London gets involved.
