//Buckingham Palace has become embroiled in a row over whether the Queen was consulted over the naming of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter.//

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jun/09/harry-and-meghan-push-back-at-claim-queen-not-consulted-on-lilibet-name

Reading through this report it appears that Harry told the queen of their intention to name their daughter Lilibet, but contrary to their claim they didn’t actually seek her permission.

Goodness knows where all this controversy with those two will end, but the plot thickens.

I love Harry and Meghan, I thought they'd retired to a Candian retreat.

Good to know they're still alive... phew.

Archibaldy, I think you’re the third person on this thread to say nobody cares - but like the others you’re wrong. I care and so do other people.

Thanks Barsel.
I'm being really catty now but William and Kate will be in the news because of G7 and meeting the Bidens etc. could the other two be jealous!
calmck I don't see why they should be jealous. They said that this isn't the life they wanted.
Kate doesn't have to try rule the roost in that relationship. IMO

Mamyalynne, thanks for posting that interview. What a pleasant chap he seems to be.
That's what they said but they are courting celebrity relationships, Netflix etc. and consequently the press and publicity
Naomi I didn't say nobody cares about this story, quite obviously people do. My point was that he said/she said about a babies name is the most interesting thing about the Royals now, and when the Queen goes so will a large percentage of people who care about the royals both in the UK and around the world and as time goes on less and less people will - it's generally an older generation thing - I give them 20 years but we shall see!
calmck I've just read an article on Jill Biden and Kate who are visiting places together today, and I expect Meghan would have liked to have done that.

I sincerely hope you’re wrong, archibaldy. Witness the flag-waving crowds at any royal event … and the street parties to celebrate them. The Royal Family are the cornerstone of our society and I think most people appreciate that.
> Daddy, is it true you named me out of spite for your Grandma?
>> Of course not, Lili darling, why would I ever name somebody I loved so much out of spite?
> But Daddy, why do people say that you did?
>> Because, darling, they are the spiteful ones. I think perhaps they don't like the fact that I married a black woman. But please be assured that Mummy and I, and my whole family including your sadly departed Great Grandma, love you very much.
I think archibaldy could be right, it's a generation thing.
I was born exactly 1 year before the Queen and the DofE married and they have both done so much for this country in their roles in my lifetime.
When it comes to Charles and Camilla, I think it will be very different.
I can of course only talk about my experience, but I do know that none of my 3 daughters are even slightly interested in the Royal family.

Ellipsis, your second fantasy on this thread - and you're the only contributor who's mentioned race. Perhaps you need to think about that.
Naomi- 12:07.

Clearly we disagree on that. Plowing their own furrow is one thing, and that's their prerogative to pursue as they wish, but I don't think Harry is nast enough to deliberately spite HRH in that way.

// I can’t imagine how anyone has retained a good opinion of them.//

I don't particularly, I just don't despise them the way many on AB seem to. I'd be very happy indeed to never hear from them again, and for them to happily live out their lives in glorious anonimity, as is their (supposed) desire.
*nasty enough
The whole thread is full of fantasy, naomi, as nobody really knows the facts of the matter, and if you think race doesn't come into why so many people want to make an issue of it ... well, LOL.

If you didn't spot the point of my post, maybe you should think about that: Harry is not going to name his baby out of spite.
I suspect that as they now in USA they really don’t need to ask permission to use the name anyway.

Im no fan of either H nor his wife but I think it’s a beautiful name
Ellipsis Many of the people who want to make it about race are usually people of colour themselves.
eve it is a pretty name, but to be honest with you, I've never heard of anyone who has this name except the Queen, and it's a name I think she thinks of fondly.
Perhaps she might be delighted that this is the name H&M have chosen, we may never know, but I don't know how she would feel if it became used as a name for hundreds of babies about to be born around the world.
Meghan is not black.
