Reading through this report it appears that Harry told the queen of their intention to name their daughter Lilibet, but contrary to their claim they didn’t actually seek her permission.
Goodness knows where all this controversy with those two will end, but the plot thickens.

it doesnt matter i they asked the queen or not. the naming of children does not need permission from family members - its a decision for the parents only. christ, if people are seriously suggesting that a great grandmother should have veto in a new baby's name, no wonder they *** off away from the toxicity

yes permission needed for grandchildren - Royal Marriages Act 1772 - and marriages have been annulled for lack of permit.
Education - Act of Settlement 1701 - Diana again trying it on - down to the grandchildren
Names - Diana tried it on ( again ) with Oliver but was persuaded no I think

I think I read somewhere that there was a card with flowers from the Queen at the D of E funeral signed "Lilibet". If true this was obviously a personal message from her to him using the name used in private between the two of them. I can see the baby being called Elizabeth and using Lilibet or Lili as with Henry Prince Harry. This all could be a misunderstanding over given and nick name
I read that the Queen does have to give permission in case that child one day becomes Monarch, although in this case, it would be unlikely.
The name Lilibet was apparently given to the Queen by her Grandfather as she couldn't say Elizabeth, so I don't even know if it's a proper name or just a nickname.
There has been some controversy over whether the Queen was asked if it would be ok for H&M to use this name and unless we hear it from the Queens mouth, we won't know.
Perhaps the Queen might not mind, but I wonder how she will feel if in time, lots of her subjects decide to use this name and it will become very common and not exclusive to the RF.
Up until now, if I heard the name Lilibet, I would immediately think of the Queen, but in another 5 yrs, there could be lots of little Lilibet's sitting in the classrooms around the world.
