Why Not Just Cancel Females Altogether?
The latest in the nonsense that is that cancel culture sees an all girls’ school axing the title of Head Girl because it is ‘too binary’.
Students attending an all girls’ school are girls, aren’t they? At a fee of £26,000 a year, as a parent of a girl at that school, I’d be looking elsewhere.

Sarah Fletcher, the school’s high mistress, said in a statement the school “would never encourage a student to ‘be’ anything in relation to their identity”.
“We want our students to be happy as themselves,” she said."
if you would pull your child out of a very successful and prestigious school over something so trivial... then more fool you.

Except it is not trivial is it.
No doubt money will talk. Schools often rely on donations from ex pupils as well as parents of current ones over and above the fees. Lets see if they are happy to continue to fund this nonsense.

Surely life is binary.
Successful and non successful.
Athletic and non athletic.
Rich and poor.
Healthy, sickly,
I cannt see any advantages of abolishing the post of head girl or indeed,,....head ANYTHING or ANYBODY.
No, I was never head boy and certainly not head boy material.
I find the world of today quite confusing but no doubt the present generation think the same of mine .

It is trivial... the title of "head of school" according to naomi's article was used when the school was first founded and then for decades after. They changed it primarily because "senior pupils felt like they were young women" rather than girls. The standard says they "admitted binary considerations were a factor", presumably after the paper badgered them about it to wring out some juicy details for readers like naomi to get all bothered about.
this school is prestigious and successful, as its alumni list demonstrates... and getting your child into such a place means that you (and they) are very lucky and privileged. If you'd forego those advantages because of your own obsession with being anti-woke then yes you are a fool.

Imagine your mum pulling you out of this school because she read an article in the newspaper and had a temper tantrum about the slightest wiff of wokeness! Pathetic...

Young people who attend a girls' school are girls. They remain girls until they leave. Then they become Old Girls (if the school and its former pupils have an interest in its alumni). The pupil selected for the post becomes the Head Girl. Not the Head Person, nor the Head Young Woman, nor the Head Pupil. Shame it upsets some people as being "too binary". There are girls' schools, boys' schools and mixed schools. That's the way it is. After they've left school they can faff about all they like.
Most objectors here are blithely ignoring the school's statement, “From our very foundation in 1904 and for decades afterwards, the senior student was called ‘Head of the School’, so in making the change, we are confirming, not denying, our ethos and traditions.”
It's a return to tradition therefore, so the frantic anti-change frothing smothering this thread is misguided. But hey, why should I spoil their obvious enjoyment of such self-indulgence by introducing facts.
