I remember this case and remember thinking how could anyone leave their own child to die in this way.
We hear all the time about young children and babies being murdered and I can never get my head around that, but to leave your child to die by starvation is just the worst thing that anyone could do.
Please don't read the link if you are unable to, the mother got 9 years!
Personally I would string her up.

no, I think nine years is okay ... if only it was nine years, which seems unlikely.
High time that penal servitude was reinstated.Prison is too cushy these days.
I agree.

But 5,000 children die every day from starvation/malnutrition world wide.

Many folk come on Answerbank encouraging withdrawal of any National Aid to these millions - would you string them up too - think about it.

Canary ///But 5,000 children die every day from starvation/malnutrition world wide.///
I don't think those children die because their Mother went out partying for 6 days!

It seems it wasn't the first time the Mother left the child alone either. In 9 years time she will still be a young woman and able to have more children, how do we know she won't do it again?
It wasn't an accident and she didn't kill the child because of depression, she left her to starve while she was out having a good time.
No. Celebrating the rest of her birthdays in prison would be more suitable. Given the chance I would throw away the key.
Nowhere near enough.
Haven't read the story. Why did she bother having children.

You think in riddles, canary.
No, not long enough at all.
I rather agree with Naomi. The thought of her possibly having other children is sickening.
Enforced sterilisation required for this sort of person, the 9 years (fully served) would be ok.

It's not murder though, I doubt very much she intended to kill the poor little mite.

I somehow suspect she will need protection in prison.

damn savage should never see the light of day again.

I hope she doesn't get it.

you think enforced vaccination is totalitarian, ymb...
There is a massive difference between enforced vaccination for the masses and sterilisation for occasional person like this jno.

Surely even you can see that?
Nine years should have a 0 added to it, disgusting specimen that will be walking our streets in 4 and a 1/2 years time , I hope she gets her comeuppance inside
This baby starved to death. If a dog was in the same position, I guarantee the country would be ‘up in arms’ children are treated with utter disrespect in our society. This person may well be free to procreate in 4/5 years .
ymb, my question is about the right of the state to interfere with people's bodies. How do you feel for isntance about the chemical castration of Alan Turing (who in his day was deemed "a person like this")?
Absolute scum. If she didn't want the child why not just abandon her at a bus stop or somewhere. At least give her the chance of a decent life with someone else. (Oh aye - forgetting the benefits!)

Should be thrashed within an inch of her miserable life!
I think people are "up in arms" Anne, on here and commenting in the newspapers.
