Why aren’t countries like Saudi,Kuwait and a lot more Arab states just sitting back and watching it all unfold again, that’s unless they want to see Sharia Law and brutal beatings carried out in football stadia ?

//nope - - I dont want Tommies to die in Afghan.// And neither do I. For once Peter and I are in complete agreement. The only way to preserve (relative) peace in Afghanistan is for a permanent and sizeable force of troops to be stationed there forevermore. It is totally unreasonable to expect this. The US and the UK (plus one or two sundry others) have spent twenty...

I predict a bloodbath.
"Maybe the answer is to find the strongest Warlord, and arm him to the teeth and give him plenty of money to quell his opponents.
Make him a puppet of the west"

we tried that in the 80s... the same people then went on to commit the 9/11 attacks.

I suspect that the frequency and severity of terror attacks against the west in future will be worse even than the ones we have seen in the past ten years if the taliban gain control. What a horrid situation...
The Taliban are gaining control
and will succeed.
Boris has stated that we will not troops to Afganistan other than those assisting evacuation of British personnel.
He Taliban are ruthless and will undoubtedly settle a few scores over their enemies. But they may actually unite the place and stop another civil war which would be a blood bath.
The Taliban may not be our choice to run the country, but the reality is they have emerged as the strongest contenders.
America needs to stop sending money* and weapons. It needs to work with the Taliban Government and nullify the warlords and drug mafia there.
One of the main problems is the money to be made from the poppy trade, which finances criminals and causes misery in the West.
* We should buy the crop off the Government, snuffing out the illegal trade, and stopping our money from funding criminals.
Good.
^that to
Danny.
Gromit, the Taliban are far from ‘contenders’. There’s no competition involved.
Ha ha that “should” happen but won’t as you know full well.
The Mexican economy runs on drugs to an even greater extent and causes far more crime and misery in Mexico the US and further afield and there’s zero chance of anything being done about that
The Taliban aren’t the only force in the country: they are opposed by Afghanistans’s version of Islamic state for one
// There’s no competition involved. //

There is. They have to beat the Government forces first. The places they have captured so far are poorly defended rural areas. The Taliban currently have 60% of the country, but will have a harder fight to capture Kandahar and Kabul. They probably will prevail. President Ashraf Ghani has been an unreliable ally, and if he is beaten, it won’t be a great loss.
Ichkeria
// Over 90% of the world’s illegal raw opium is thought to come from Afghanistan. //

Taking that out of criminals control and making it a legitimate revenue stream for farmers and the state has to be worth a try.
Ich, they’re no competition.

Not quite correct. The Taliban now control half of the country's provincial capitals, including its second largest city:

// British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace predicted “Al Qaeda will probably come back,” adding that the growing instability in Afghanistan could pose a security threat to the UK. //
Thanks for the update dannyk13
“Taking that out of criminals control and making it a legitimate revenue stream for farmers and the state has to be worth a try.”

You might have to speak to the Taliban about that then ;-)
That’s where they get a lot of their tax revenue from
