Why aren’t countries like Saudi,Kuwait and a lot more Arab states just sitting back and watching it all unfold again, that’s unless they want to see Sharia Law and brutal beatings carried out in football stadia ?

//nope - - I dont want Tommies to die in Afghan.// And neither do I. For once Peter and I are in complete agreement. The only way to preserve (relative) peace in Afghanistan is for a permanent and sizeable force of troops to be stationed there forevermore. It is totally unreasonable to expect this. The US and the UK (plus one or two sundry others) have spent twenty...

Bobbisox , Only joking , have a nice night .
19.36 Think about it .
We have sent and sacrificed too many of our troops and enough is enough
We have done our best to arm and train their troops but it would appear that they do not as a male population have the moral fibre or fortitude to fight for their country
They do not deserve any more sacrifice from our soldiers it is time to stand up for themselves
My hope is that it turns into drone-strike paradise for the Yanks
No more boots on the ground
A classic exampleof Mission Creep.
We went to Afghanistan to get Bin Laden and 20 years later we were still there.
We should not have stayed there more than 20 days.
20 days?
In fact experience shows you need to be there longer not for less time.
I disagree ichkeria,

20 days was plenty of time to go there, not find Bin Laden, and leave. (He was probably already in Pakistan then anyway).

If that was a pretext and our real mission was to steal the country, then it was pretty obvious after just a few months that that would be very hard, if not impossible.

We should have left then, not hung around as targets for the next score years.
// that they do not have a male population have the moral fibre or fortitude to fight for their country//

I must not c/p I must not c/p - I am a bad person if I c/p - I know this because people - good people - on AB tell me, they can I cant, the world is like this.....

the bad news is
that they do have a male population who fight for their country

and they all think the Taliban is the way to do it!

How many town/centres/cities where the unelected elders have said - do not invade our city - come in anyway !

all of them. That is why the country wasnt worf defending

Hard news I know

but we are where we are
and Biden is worrying about being seen to do a second SaiGon

( wh apparently Trump had uppermost in his mind. "Grunts can die so long as I dont look bad")

I said to a pompous American in 1978 - "even ignoring the recent American defeat in Vietnam....." - and he looked as tho he was just gonna have a fit or sumfing ....
Indeed. The noble Afghan seems to be a figment of western imagination, perhaps just part of the overall justification for all the time and money spent/wasted training and employing soldiers and police only for them all to evaporate in the face of anything more threatening than the aged or female.
The Taliban with have complete control within short order, be incapable of governing, the war lords of Mujahadeen etc. will gird their loins & start a new insurgency & off they will all go again, - fighting is all these morons know.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
The Afghan people were glad to see the foreign invaders defeated. The British, the Russian and now the Americans have all failed to subjugate the Afghans.

They were glad to see the British and Americans just leave, and they will be glad when Ashraf Ghani‘s puppet regime falls. It was corrupt and ran on American dollars.

They would sooner have the Taleban than the British, Russians or Americans. Which is why the Taleban taking the country back has had little or no resistance.

Afghan people who have served the US are fearful for their futures, but most ordinary Afghans will be delighted.
Only Kabul left to go now then. Migrants, terrorists and heroin incoming shortly.

// Migrants, terrorists and heroin incoming shortly. //

Do catch up. They have been coming for the last 20 years.
True, and yet it’s about to get worse.
Boris has recalled parliament to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
The UK didn’t really have a choice to leave.
The US abandoned us there, as well as the Afghans who had been helping us.
Without the US, our only course was to pull out too. We could not have tried to go it alone.
Afghanistan-just another failed state,to add with all the others, all the countries in Africa, half a dozen countries in Asia and four or five in South America and the Caribbean.Hell mend them. The non-failed countries in the world should just wash their hands of them.
