It is the only way to exercise authority in such a lawless country and ought to and no doubt will become the norm
No more boots on the ground for Biden

what authority, the Americans, Brits are pulling out shortly.... that leaves those left behind at the mercy of the Taliban, and this new terror group.
Drone strikes were the norm anyway and obviously now are the only remaining option. They will of course continue if required well after the Aug 31 and Sep 11 deadlines.
In my opinion, drone strikes were overused during the occupation in preference to the use of ground troops in many instances

More AB experts are needed to alleviate the problems in other countries.
I'll sit back and wait until I've been informed by those that know the answer
there isn't one 1ozzy...
There is Emmie, if AB is anything to go by;-/
Drones will only strike the target they are aimed at, troops on the ground identify those targets, trying to avoid hitting the innocent.
no there isn't an answer mate, twenty years have gone by and for what exactly, 450 odd British troops dead, and over a thousand American troops, plus the ordinary Afghans who didn't ask for this.
"The suspected member of the IS-K group was targeted in Nangarhar province."

It sounds like an attempt to demonstrate the carrying out of justice, but killing one man, even if it was him, does little to alleviate the tragedy of the bungled departure & consequent unnecessary deaths.
exactly Khandro,
“ Drones will only strike the target they are aimed at, troops on the ground identify those targets, trying to avoid hitting the innocent.”

That’s right. And I think many decent Afghans resented that fact. Troops also can build up relations with locals
how long should our troops have stayed out in that hell hole, another 50 years???
I'm not sure I believe this - but I expect the American people will be pleased that retaliation was so swift and so accurate. I don't know if that will stop them calling for Biden to go though. I doubt it.
This has to be a classic case of be careful what you wish for !

The Americans wanted out but there was no exit which was going to prove anything other than disastrous.
More US military casualties in a day than in goodness knows how long. The US looking idiotic and weak. And so on
Yes, revenge is sweet and Biden did the right thing in killing the IS-K man. Terrorism should be answered.
Not martyred but vapourised.

Nicely done.
100% agree with the above two posts.
Yeah, you kill 13 of ours, we'll kill one of yours. That'll show 'em :-/
// In my opinion, drone strikes were overused during the occupation in preference to the use of ground troops in many instances//

just as in the Vietnam War - bombing was used instead of boots on the ground with predictable results ( didnt work in Iraq 1919 yes 1919, Nrth west frontier 1935 ( despite being supported by Churchill) Yemen etc)
You forget that they've not only got a bad guy but outsmarted Allah who's supposed to protect his minions.

That's real power. :-P
// we'll kill one of yours. That'll show 'em //
anyone
doesnt matter
Mother Hubbard if need be ( see Fahrenheit 451 - they kill a vagabond on tv as the audience was getting restive about finding the culprit)
