Gaps on supermarket shelves. Fast food outlets pulling milkshakes and bottled drinks from their menus. Restaurants running out of chicken and closing. Empty vending machines. Online grocery orders full of substitutions. Fruit and vegetables rotting in the fields.

These are just some of the most visible signs of Britain’s deepening supply chain crisis, which has seen stocks in shops and warehouses slump to their lowest levels since the Confederation of British Industry began surveying in 1983.

It has led to dire warnings that the UK’s food system, which has been hit hardest by delivery delays and labour shortages, is in danger of reaching breaking point and may not be able to meet Christmas demand.

Crime would go through the roof, tc, if we adopted your policies.
gulliver \\ You keep to your opinion and I will keep to mine OK.//

The mistake you are making gulliver is thinking that what you're being told are opinions. They're not, they're facts.
Agricultural workers can still come to the UK when needed under some Temporary Agri Workers scheme.
They just can't stay here. (sign on and work peanuts in hand)
Crime is already through the roof, have you not noticed spice? Time for a different take.
The peanuts you refer to spice keep your belly full. There is no greater persuader to go looking for work than an empty belly, just ask a 8 or 10 year old kid from India he knows more about it than any of the Idle riff raff we have in the UK. Their work ethic would put many to shame in the UK, and why is that? because they had no choice, work or die that is their one and only choice. Has it done them any harm, very little, its taught them at a very early age real morals and values.
'Why isn't Bangladesh the best/most powerful country in the world then?'
Pinched from 'the beast of bolsover' who's name escapes me now.
Where did you go picking crops this year, tc?
'the beast of bolsover'

That's the chap, jd.
Someone in the Commons was saying low wages would make the country stronger when he shouted something like that.
(Bangladeshis earned about 50p a week at the time)
Stop fretting about the media panic bull shine.
Spice 14.18. I don't need to, I'm 70 years old, still fit and well so far, and since I've worked from the age of 13years old, I can afford not, its called retirement I think. I worked every morning and evening, before school and after school, plus all day Saturday, for £1. 10 shillings a week, I kept the ten shillings and had to give my mother the £1, the £1 was my board ( that was at only 13 years old) I had 4 other older brothers, and an older sister who all had to pay board, of course a lot more than my £1. The reason for my input was we were not well off with no farther in the house, but along with my fab MUM who is still alive today at 100 years old it taught me the right ethics in all directions, and to this day my mum still values every pound she has, and so do I. Work for your money and you become a better person, give people money for doing nothing, and all they will want is more, and become total ***, and thats what we have today. The *** of today don't understand the reason you have to go to work, (you work to live,) and that has always been the case, you pay your way FIRST, then if you have funds left over lucky you, its your'e to spend as you wish. I can only ever remember asking my mum to lend me 2 shillings once, because I wanted to buy something and hadn't got any money left from my 10 shillings. She asked me what I'd done / spent my own money on, and had to write it down for her to see. After looking at it she said there was certain things that I could have done without, but I hadn't done to bad. She said on this occasion she would lend me the 2 shillings but it had to be paid back within the next 2 weeks, 1 shilling a week, and this would be the first and last time she would lend me money. Her words were if you want to buy something different with your money, you have to do without something you normally buy, or work harder for more money. Hope this helps?:0)
I see. You're advocating hard work and low wages for other people.
We'll have to agree to differ.
I know plenty of other ABers agree with you.
Being opposed to cheap labour was my main reason for supporting Brexit.
I'm advocating any job at any wage if you are out of work and taking tax payers money, and at the same time you can look out for a better job with better pay, the reason? its called being a responsible adult, and showing it, especially when you go for that better job, employers will see you as a good investment, not someone who has been more than happy just to sit on their sofa for the last 4/5 years doing nothing.
Teacake at 11.47am - I couldn’t agree more if I tried.

As a society we absolutely have a duty to look after those who cannot work, but I resent with a passion my taxes paying for those who choose not to work.
^^ Well thanks, I'm glad some can see whats wrong!!

I once heard him referred to (on some election night or other) as "Dennis Bolsover, Skinner, Labour" :-)
T/C 15.48, Very Good Answer.
TC -I could not have put the argument any better - you should go into politics!!!!
I posted earlier in response to Teacake’s excellent post, but realise I didn’t actually answer the OP.

Why is Britain running out of everything?

It’s a bit of a nonsense question because, if my experience is anything to go by, we aren’t running out of anything.

I was in Sainsbury’s this morning and the shelves were fully stacked and there wasn’t a shortage of anything.

Actually, that’s not strictly true - I wasn’t able to get my weekly pot of Gentlemans Relish. But that’s the only thing I couldn’t get, so perhaps there’s a shortage of anchovies!
What shortages there are seem to be completely random.Three things I have noticed mmissing from my Morrison's this week are: their own brand of lemonade, corned beef and pedal bin liners.
