Massively impressed with the way Emma is playing
Maturity beyond her years and not fazed by anything
The ball striking by both players is astonishing
Emma looks to have a steely determination that will hopefully see her through
Took the medic an eternity to wipe it clean and put a sticking plaster on it.
As you say Mozz, i expect to see these two slugging it out in finals for years to come. With the power Emma has in her strokes, i think the hard courts are where she'll make her mark.
Disappointed at the reaction of Fernandez to the Emma injury
Her losers speech got the point where I was thinking:
Ok love let’s not make this all about you
I think Leylah just got caught up in the moment, she must have been feeling very frustrated that she didn't get a chance to apply pressure immediately on the break and had to reset five minutes later.
I don't think it will have made a difference, but you have to allow some leeway to people in such a high-pressure situation.
That wasn't an injury, it was nowt more than a bit of skin scraped off her knee. Didn't see Emma limping, did you? I can fully understand Fernandez's reaction to the break in play. The momentum was with her at the time and it was so near the end of that particular game, they could've treated Emma during the natural break in play.
Had it been the other way around, i'm sure there would have been a few on these pages who would have cried 'gamesmanship'.
To be fair Ken, the blood was close to seeping through the plaster by the time Emma had won the match, so the cut must've been quite deep.
I agree Jim. I think Leylah just let her frustration get the better of her. I'm sure if the roles were reversed, she would've taken exactly the same time out.
No Jim, i don't. Obviously! I'm saying that had that been the Djokoman, some on here would have been having kittens. It may be protocol to stop the game if there's blood, but it wasn't exactly pouring from a gaping wound and it was on her leg, not above her eyes, or a nose bleed. Had they allowed that game to play out to a conclusion, the arena would not have resembled a crime scene.
