//That’s the slippery slope to the thought control of the Ministry of Truth.//
Absolutely spot on. Individuals have a responsibility to sort out the wheat from the chaff. They must be circumspect when reading material upon which they rely to make decisions, particularly when it is written by social media "influencers" and the like. In fact I'd go much further than that. I make no secret of the fact that I disbelieve just about anything any politician tells me. In the majority of instances I am quite wise to do so and I can live with the small number of occasions where I'm not.
"Stamping out misinformation" means that somebody has to decide what falls into that category and what does not. Since, by and large, I only trust myself to do that, I would be unable to take the personal responsibility that I believe is necessary. Yes it's quite true that some people are not so well equipped as others in that task. But that's not my fault and I don't see why the information that is available to me should be censored, possibly to my detriment.
