As others may know, always been a keen Brexiteer, but I'm finding some of the rhetoric flying around at the moment to be a bit uncomfortable, for example, this morning's headlines in the Express read, "EU shamed by 'bigger, tougher' UK and US after Australia defence pact 'Full marks Boris' "

I fear this kind of hubris & gloating isn't doing the UK any favours, you'd think we were preparing to go to war! - there's also lot's of similar sentiment on YouTubes; shouldn't they all pipe down a bit?

//That is the sort of mentality //

oh look at the high and mighty one.
You really believe the ‘EU Mandarins’ take notice of the daily express and YouTube? Jesus.

ZM //You really believe the ‘EU Mandarins’ take notice of the daily express and YouTube?...//

Yes.
The Daily Express sells less copies than Private Eye.
It doesn’t, gromit.
Wow. You’re even more deluded than I thought, which is saying something!
// The French are banging the drum at every turn//

different points of view - no one can call off a contract, let alone for inefficiency ( French unlikely to say - they werent delivering. And likely to treat the Oz like Brits and say that zay were only there for the marney )

I checked elsewhere and got different figures with the Express exceeding 300,000 - but ok. Danny, that’s the same link gromit posted.
I should have scrolled before posting,
Not to worry. No problem.

Zacs-Master; The 'EU' in its various forms in Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg & lord knows where else, has subscriptions to all European newspapers & periodicals as well as many hard copies delivered daily. Like all politicians, they like to know what is being said of them, - probably to be able to try damage limitation exercises!
The head librarian at the ECHR in Strasbourg happens to be a personal friend of mine & I could probably get her to furnish me with a list of all the publications taken in across the Union, though it will be a long list.

Private Eye https://www.abc.org.uk/product/3379"

In fairness, The Eye is monthly, so those are misleading stats. Almost certainly more people read the Express than read Private Eye. I don't think the tabloid ravings would matter so much if they didn't have some sort of familiar ring to them when it comes to people who should know better ...

On the AUKUS thing I should say that I have no real problem with it in principle, but it surely did not take a genius to see it would cause a serious diplomatic row with a NATO ally. It's all very well say Macron is this and that: he almost certainly is, but it's not all about just the President, and knowing the French as we ought to, that is not the way to go about things - not that it's probably the way to do it full stop.
Of course. Daily sales versus monthly sales. I knew that was wrong somewhere. Sneaky gromit. Thanks ich.
Private Eye is fortnightly.
Obviously the Express has repeat daily readers and that is less than PEs fortnightly total.

My point in comparing the two is that with a readership less than a satirical comic, the Express isn’t very influential (any more).
It used to be when it had 3.5 million readers and was Britain’s best selling newspaper. Even 20 years ago it had a respectable 2 million readers. But now, just an eighth of that total.
Not sneaky. Everyone knows the Express is a Daily and PE is fortnightly (except Ick).
Per issue the Eye gets more readers. That is not to say it is more influential because it isn’t. But a newspaper that has lost 1,750,000 readers from the millennium is influencing few if anyone.
Be interesting to see how many they’d sell on a daily basis.
