All accidents are obviously preventable
It is (as always in any accident) to be determined as to who was at fault
Whether or not safety procedures have been followed
Or if there was a malfunction of the parts of the weapon or devices used

Discharged a prop firearm.
Shame the people responsible for the props didn't do a good job

Surely, putting projectiles into a prop gun is not accidental. Why do prop guns even need to be loaded with anything.

Prop guns need to be loaded in order to work! They are loaded with blank rounds, but sometimes a fragment of the blank cartridge can be blasted out of the barrel.

I agree stickybottle, I an a keen shooter myself. A surprising number of people are injured or killed by prop guns.

I thought it must be like the Thorp Rd shooting - policeman shot another policeman because oops the wrong ammo was stored in the wrong box !

deffo dubbl oops - I think the shooter was acquitted of manslaughter
but the chief constable admitted health and safety offences

you'd think this should be impossible but we don't yet know how it came about. It's well known that blanks can be anything but under certain circumstances. Tragic for all concerned, lets wait for the details to emerge.

Surely if the gun is fired once and the result is someone gets killed or injured, why would Alec Baldwin fire a second shot, it just doesn't add up.

It is very difficult to understand how two people were hurt. And after previous incidents such as the death of Brandon Lee there must be more safeguards which should be in place.
However it was caused though tragic for all involved.

Quite a few magicians have been killed performing a bullet catching trick when the doctored gun actually fired.

latest suggestion seems to be that it was a live round. The union has pointed out that the prop master who loaded it was not a member.
