no doubt, but you could equally - in fact, better than equally - say it's the tobacco that leads to harder drugs. If it's the harder drugs that are the problem, wouldn't it make sense to put the gate across the slippery slope as high up as possible?
I don't agree that mother's milk "leads to" hard drugs, but I think tobacco does.

I have tried cannabis on occasion & found it either ineffectual (resin) or quite beneficial for pain relief & relaxation (herbal). I would favour relaxation of the current laws to :
a) reduce the workload on police/courts.
b) cut off funds to harder drug dealers.
c) be a potential for tax revenue.
Cannabis is easily grown in the UK - heroin & cocaine need to be imported. Tightening up border controls would help.

I've never smoked tobacco in my life but have smoked or eaten cannabis for over 40 years. I've never craved it ,like sometimes you just crave a nice cold white wine, nor have I ever tired anything harder . Everyone I know, without exception, have the same relationship with Weed. Those who are going to go on to heroin will go there regardless of if Cannabis is legal or not -its in their nature, like some will become alcoholics while others will remain 'social drinkers'.
dave; safer not to eat cannabis, you don't know what dose you are getting until it goes through your digestive system. Smoking is quick and you immediately know if you've had enough. Unfortunately, smoking can be bad for your lungs, especially if mixed with tobacco. Tobacco is not only tar-filled, but is a powerful physical addictive, unlike cannabis, which has tar but no physical addictive properties.
