As much as I like Boris I think that now is the time for him to step down before more damage is done to the government and the Tory party.

There isn't the slightest possibility of jacob Rees-Mogg leading the Conservative party, and I'm amazed people think there is.
There are limits to "anyone could lead the Tory party to victory in an election" - I was exaggerating :-)
No? Okay. You don't seem him suitable, RH - and for what it's worth he's not my cup of tea either. I prefer Boris by a mile.
*deem*
Regardless of Politics, Boris is the epitome of a bumbling fool. He is incapable of completing one sentence without mumbling. Having gone through the Public School system I'm sure he was taught public speaking, so perhaps he thinks his style is endearing to the 'masses'. Well, it isn't. JRM has far more gravitas and is entitled to his religion and personal views, which would not affect his role as a PM. What do his detractors think he would do if he became PM -start the Spanish Inquisitions up again?
I think after six months of Rees-Mogg, we'd be begging for Boris to return.

Jacob Rees-Mogg could well be Labour's best chance of having a shout at returning to power.
What do you think JRM would change, to have the Tories begging for the return of Boris?
Rees-Mogg actually lives by a set of principles and values, and isn't afraid to make it crystal clear where he stands on issues. People can agree or disagree with his views, but at least you know where you stand with him which is ironically the reason he wouldn't become PM.
Have always loved watching this hilarious yet enlightening video of JRM showing Jess Philips round his constituency. Parallel universes collide...!
Stableford, I think you are right. JRM has too many commitments with his businesses and has stated on a few occasions he has no wish to become PM.
If Johnson was to go there's a chance a very nasty civil war would break out between the "Red Wallers" (tax and spend brigade) and the Sunak "traditional Tory" wing"
The flaws in Johnson's character were all very clear when he stood for leadership of his party in 2019... we have not learned anything new about him at all since then... the tories irresponsibly ignored all warning and lifted him into power... now we are all stuck with him for the foreseeable!! I'm afraid the time to pay attention to Johnson's unsuitability has been and gone... if only the tories had done so.
I doubt very much that Conservative voters would want JRM to lead the party. I don't think Boris is going anywhere for quite some time. That would be a big mistake.
The Tories would not even get a chance to 'not want' JRM because he says he has no intentions of running for PM.
Are the Red wallers really tax and spend?

I can only hope Johnson goes, or is pushed. He is not a Tory in any shape or form but closer to a Marxist Green Since Cummings left. It's not just one problem it is a whole catalogue of them. He got us over the line for Brexit and I applaud him for that but now time for someone fiscally competent to take over.

JRM wouldn't be PM, he doesn't want it and I dont think he is suitable.

For all the recent problems I still back Sunak.
Your ramble at 10.25 was pointless then, apg.
//I don't think Boris is going anywhere for quite some time. That would be a big mistake.//

Hmm, as a life long Tory living outside of London I take a totally different view. The big mistake will be him staying. I am no longer out on a limb saying I will not vote Tory while he is at the helm, many others (not all by any means) are now thinking the same.

You may be a green lefty Naomi, I am not and neither should the Tory party. If you want that sort of thing join the Green Party.
'All political careers end in failure'.

True Naomi, you must be rubbing off on me, must go get a nice cup of tea.......
“ Are the Red wallers really tax and spend? ”

Yea, because they want to keep their jobs
Sorry I mean: “help people” :-)

And Johnson is on their side for now
How can Boris and his government be put under pressure by an opposition led by a former DPP with the charisma of a cold fish and his deputy wearing Doc Martens and calling people scum it will not happen. To present a credible opposition labour needs to find with in itself politicians who can resonate with people and take it back to the centre ground as done by Tony Blair.I din't like by the way but he did know what was required.
