I know I certainly have in my younger days, but I certainly don't consider myself racist. And although, as I said earlier, Mr Rafiq should still be held accountable, I don't think anybody who once made a racist comment is automatically still a racist. If it is the case that one instance is all it takes for one to be forever branded a racist (and that goes for some Rafiq has accused too), then 99% of us are also guilty.
My husband is from a different generation from me. He says the Yorkshire cricket racism is “just banter”. I said it might just be banter to him but it’s not for the Asian players. It’s hurtful, and Michael Vaughan is not a nice person.
