Some been interviewed in the camp near Calais , shown on news tonight explained how its freezing living 6 in a tent so they cant wait to get to England. Has someone told them its warmer in UK than in France? Maybe theyve been told by the smuggling gangs they'll get a hotel and then a house here and its lovely and warm here in winter.

In my limited experience immigrants work hard and make a contribution to the country. In contrast to some third generation “have lived on benefits and never worked”.

Some immigrants are not allowed to work legitimately when they first come onto the UK. I know this because the Syrians I know were wanting to get work and they had to wait a year and go on a course to learn English before they were allowed to work. Unfortunately, covid came along and they are still waiting to do the English course and on full benefits three years later.

it has always been a source of amusement to me that millions in this country hate it yet Calais is full of people who want to get here. Perhaps some sort of exchange scheme could be arranged.

Asylum seekers are not permitted to work but if they have been waiting for over a year for a decision they need to apply for permission to work.

My Syrians have support workers, but Covid has slowed down a lot of processes. They came directly from a Camp in Syria, their adult daughter following a few months later.

I heard on the news (not BBC) that all these would-be asylum seekers had, in fact, been offered asylum in France - and had refused. Doesn't that fact in itself negate any justification they may have had to attempt to enter the UK?

Erm...Illegal immigrants don't need "permission" for anything- that's how they got here, and why London is over-run with illegal hawkers selling warmed-up hot dogs and fake Gucci
