A Covid variant that the vaccine is 40 percent less effective against
Along with what is happening in Europe and the cold snap we are about to endure over the weekend it is not looking too good
I hope I am wrong

//It's a complete joke - and I'm not laughing.//
So are you saying newjudge that it dosnt matter if we get thousands of more covid patients in hospitals because the NHS is allways rubbish in winter. Theres being stretched and being totally overwhelmed.
Its odd because am sure you complained before about other operations being cancelled due to covid, well that'll certainly happen again with your ' got to live with it/dont bother testing people/ let people go to work when infectious' approach to all this
‘ the nhs is always rubbish in winter’ . I can assure you this upcoming winter for the NHS is far worse than any other I have seen .
anne......agreed.
Bobbie.....just my thoughts.
// the nhs is always rubbish in winter’ //
That's a bit unfair to all those in the NHS who do their best.
Wasn’t meaning your thoughts Sqad , but when something happens newspapers go into a tailspin, don’t you agree?
Bobbi.....maybe...but they have to report incidents and events....how they see them.
Yes I agree but I won’t panic till I have something to panic about, although I agree, I believe it’s in the UK.p already according to a top scientist on Sky News
Danny, it is a bit unfair. Hospitals are extremely busy in winter months. Hospitals do their best.
This winter will be like no other. ( I sincerely hope I’m wrong )
The ability of scientists to adapts the new style vaccines should mean an adapted and more effective vaccine would come on stream relatively quickly if needed. I would be more concerned about the effect on the health of vulnerable people due to the huge rise in energy costs. More elderly patients with strokes etc who will be in hospital for ages as they can't be sent home to places they can no longer afford to heat. More asthma and copd admissions.
//So are you saying newjudge that it dosnt matter if we get thousands of more covid patients in hospitals because the NHS is allways rubbish in winter.//

I don’t think I said that. I’ll to go back and check. What I am saying is that, Covid or no Covid, the NHS is always in crisis. It has been for so long as I can remember and, unless drastic steps are taken, it will be for the foreseeable future.

// That's a bit unfair to all those in the NHS who do their best.//

It’s not directed at those on the front line, Danny. They do their best but much of their efforts are spent overcoming the ineptitude of their managers. It’s principally directed at the senior management of the NHS, many of whom I wouldn’t trust to run a bath let alone a health service, and at politicians for allowing a service, which sucks up stupendous amounts of taxpayers’ dosh, to be so unfit. It doesn’t need money. It has more money than it can spend and will spend whatever it is given without any improvement to outcomes.

// This winter will be like no other.//

It will be like all the others – slightly worse than the ones which went before because the ineptitude and inefficiencies seem to be cumulative. The fact that they have a pandemic (or more properly an endemic disease) to deal with makes matters slightly worse.
// Where does it say that vaccines are 40% less effective?
I didn’t think they could tell that yet//

they can't itch - mornin' itch
the usual AB booba-looba
I think it may be drawover from 40 mutations

the virus number is covid 1.1.159 - nb there is another 519, and that is the number of the amino acid in the chain which is chiefly variant

and Fergus - The Ferge- Walsh was SO bad at 0700 R4 (*)
that I sent the Beeb:

Dear Sir

Fergus walsh being a busy man telling us what is what

may not have seen this ( Nature )

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-03552-w

Pyotr P - admirer

This is the nature annotation from which all truth comes
The Ferge was going like ( 0700 R4)
"we are all gonna DDDDIIIIIIIEEEEEE!"
and screaming and blubbing.... (a man honestly, on radio!) and the so called expert was going something like: " well you are, I am in a lab"
// newjudge : it dosnt matter if we get thousands of covid patients in hospitals because the NHS is always rubbish in winter.//

sounds like Judge - he cant even add
( dat Y dey call him Judge Dredd see)
Yes indeed sorry the Mail does indeed quote Javid on the 40 per cent, but the key thing is he is speculating, as I said at the start
It is not true that it has been shown that this variant is n% better at avoiding vaccines. Maybe it will, maybe it'll be worse maybe better.
I heard the 40% figure on the news just before we had power cut. Gloom all round here! Best thing is to go back bed methinks!
Sqad // The new South African variant is already in the U.K //

directly denied this am, 0700,0800,0900
cd be still true

so unthink it pro tem sqad

Itch - you are talking sense ( 40% not proven) and the usual suspects are trying give you the usual hump....The Nature piece is worth a read and virtually nothing else

I have suggested various clinical wheezes about nu-variant,
such as the proportion of infections in those who have alread had the disease AND the proportion of infection in those vacca'd
will give an idea of clinical break thro....
- no lab work needed -
a politician talks about R number?
oh ignore!
worse than a usual suspect on AB
People will panic, but not about the virus. Probably about another lockdown and their Christmas plans. Just like last Christmas. This virus is here to stay and there will many variants. We have to live with it but still take precautions.
Apparently 2 cases now.
