do these complainers want to transfer the population of afghanistan to the uk, im thinking about the illegals and the dinghy arrivals already here and making there way right now, just how many people do the complainers want to bring to the uk, but you can bet once we have civil unrest because of all the ilegals, the moaners will be emigrating.

Thanks Naomi; but you are now criticising me.
What did I actually do on this thread? (Or are you just making a general comment about my overall behaviour?)
We invaded Afghanistan
Over the course of around 20 years, we recruited locals to help us there, making those locals our allies and our enemies their enemies
We then decided to withdraw at very short notice
We made a rushed, chaotic withdrawal, and left a load of our allies there
Some of our allies have now been murdered

No need to worry about our culture being destroyed. It already is, if our attitude to allies is to abandon them to die while our top people take a holiday.
//We then decided to withdraw at very short notice//

Remind us again who you think "decided to withdraw at very short notice". Take you time there is no rush. Over the course of 20 years billions £ss and $ss were poured into the place in "Aid" and equipment, most of which was nothing more than bribery or hush money eagerly hoovered up by thugs and terrorists. Allies do not become dependants or inherit a right to move in with you.
If you think Boris is a disaster as Prime Minister just think what Dominic Raab would be like,I dread to think.

> //We then decided to withdraw at very short notice//
> Remind us again who you think "decided to withdraw at very short notice".

No need, you quoted it.

> Take you time there is no rush.

Because you've already done it!

Returning to the OP, the "Hullabaloo" is because we were incompetent. If the suggestion is that we left our allies behind to be murdered because we didn't want them here, that's a completely different (and much more serious) charge than we left them behind because we're incompetent fools.

Although some may suspect that the apparent incompetence is cover for a callous indifference and lack of honour, I prefer not to believe that without further evidence.
The shambles of our pull out from Afghanistan is an entirely different matter from the illegal immigration shambles.

Of the thousands of immigrants who have crossed the channel, very few, less than 5% have come from Afghanistan.
I'm sure you're right, Gromit, just have their travel documents checked and we'll know for sure.
@10.58. I think you may have misundstood the question again.
I asked who you "think" caused the panic evacuation. I already knew what I believed. Much the same as many people I would think. As yet you haven't told us who you think caused the bedlam.
Another point to consider. 20 years ago(that magic time span again) the population of Afghanistan was 13 million give or take a few K. In 2021 it stands at 40.24 milllion. All that aid and infrastructure financing seems to have had some affect does it not? Whether the population "explosion" was due to birth rate, migration into Afghanistan attracted by our largesse(sound familiar?)or a deliberately inflated head count because it demanded even more "aid" we dont yet know. I won't ask you what you think is the answer because a choice of 3 may make it too complicated. 40 million Afghanistanis perhaps headed this way if they can find enough fools to encourage them.
//Russia spent years there before the UK/USA. What about their moral responsibiliy?// complete non sequitur of AB proportions!
The head fella (*) in the end of that 1989 tried to commit suicide !

Why did Raphael Marshall leave FCO in sept - does anyone who asks this, know the answer? ( this happens so often on AB) - I thought he resigned thro burn-out. 25 is young for this. He just thought "this job makes me feel so bad that I have to do something else" I am sure his family supported him in that

He (RM) is 25 and the upper age limit is 24 - to get in you have to be top of a pile where you take two languages and a third language paper which is meant to measure the ease which you learn languages ( mathematical linguistics) - and a fourth paper where you have at 25 to pretend you are an ambassady aged 50 ( a seasoned liar sent abroad to lie for his country)

and out of that come near the top. You couldnt be fired until the junior FO clerk told the police they cdn go into the Libyan embassy 1982 when they could ( hem hem)

So RM has ended his glorious ambassadorial career - after a year or two

( the MP who told Eden not to invade Suez 1956 shared the same fate. He was an adviser to the makers of "The Crown")

whistle blowers dont lead a gold plated life
Trump agreed in February 2020 with the Taliban that US troops would leave Afghanistan. Then he was not re-elected. Biden went with the agreement and pulled out US troops slightly later than planned, in September 2021.
The UK Foreign Office had 18 months to plan the UK withdrawal. So the short notice excuse is a lie. The ensuing shambles was down to either bad planning, too late planning, or no proper planning at all.
Douglas
The cross channel migrants are mostly Iranians (51%).
Then Iraqis (26%). Syrians (6%). Afghans (4%).

thank you for the update gromit

I kinda thought they were a difft lot

dress rehearsal 1979 -Iran
problems caused by the embassies being unwarned and unprepared

( I include, unwarned as warned and ignored)
> I asked who you "think" caused the panic evacuation.

If you're going to play semantic games, rather than address the actual OP, you'd better make sure of your ground first. You did not ask me who I think caused the panic evacuation, you asked me "who you think 'decided to withdraw at very short notice'" ... which was us! And we left allies behind to die.
Sigh ... another excersise in "change the question" to suit the preferred answer is elapsing.
I can only presume that you have not yet linked the panic withdrawal to the short(non at all in fact) notice given before said withdrawal took place. When you do let us know who caused the panic and subsequent bedlam, by abitrarily pulling out troops and personel with no warning. If you crunch the numbers it would appear that every member of our armed services and Government representatives had a few hundred "interpreters" each. That is a lot of talking. Were you there? :))
> Sigh ... another excersise in "change the question" to suit the preferred answer is elapsing.

Yes, it sure is. I suggest you read Gromit's response from 12:10 on timing.
Hah are we holding up Gromit as the bearer of all things truthful now? I remember the ban for not being so. I somehow doubt that Trump would have pulled troops and security forces out of Bagram Airport before everyone who was entitled to be evacuated could travel there and board a plane. Not to say all the infrastructure air traffic control leaving the biggest airfield within a 500 mile radius intact and in the hands of terrorists. The US troops were pulled out overnight without even having time to pack belongings and no one knew they were gone untill next morning including us. Only Biden could come up with that as a substitute for a plan, and as per the usual script the anti British amongst us are sickeningly keen to try and blame us . How long before Russia or China is flying long distant bombers from there?
Let the Afghans sort their own schict out, instead of running away. They deserve the chance. The nice Chinese will help.

@domdyer70
Sir Laurie Bristow (former ambassador to Afghanistan), Sir Philip Barton (head of FCDO) and Nigel Casey (PM special rep for Afgh) all CONFIRM to the foreign affairs committee that animals were not prioritised above people in Kabul evacuation.
> another excersise in "change the question" to suit the preferred answer is elapsing.

And still it continues. It's like the post-truth people who pointed at others and shouted "Fake news!" ... hiding in plain sight the fact that they were the offenders.
