"I haven't seen reports of non-staff members being there but I imagine IF a senior member of government attended he/she would have been head of the department, and hence working with them. The rules relating to hospitals and funerals is an entirely different issue and using it to score points to bolster anti-government sentiment is scraping the barrel."
Naomi, the senior figure who was reportedly present may well have been working with them, but the whole point is that it wasn't work and what they were allegedly doing was explicitly banned under their own rules. This wasn't just a group of junior staff who didn't know any better.
The rules regarding hospitals / funerals were brought in under the same umbrella and demonstrate the seriousness of all of the rules that were in place at the time. They are relevant here as they give context to the scale of the sacrifices that the general public were asked (forced) to make while the government couldn't even abide by the most trivial rule of them all.

Housebuyer, I know what the whole point of the bleating is about but we are living in unprecedented times and quite frankly if the petulant seek to disrupt the country even more by demanding either the Prime Minister be replaced by someone who will necessarily fail equally to attain the perfection required of him, or an election that will result in another Tory government, all because of an after-work get together that happened a year ago and caused no damage to anyone, in my opinion you need your bumps felt…. but that, of course, is just my opinion.

Can I also ask why you think it's 'petulant' that people want the government to be held accountable for breaking their own rules (if they did break those rules) when others who broke those same rules on the same day are still being prosecuted and fined thousands of pounds?

Naomi is bang on, such a petty thing, who gives a rat's April? Do you people want to destabilise the whole country so you can crow from the roof tops about how right you are? Who cares if they had a bash? I don't same, as the 1000s of illegal parties etc that no doubt happened all over the country. We've let the medics and the jobsworths turn us into hysterical prannies scared of our own shadows. It was a year ago, we are now vaccinated, move on. The last thing anyone wants is more upheaval. Naomi - I'm genuinely intrigued why you think it's petty that people aren't happy that those who make the rules don't follow them themselves (allegedly) while prosecuting others who also fail to follow them.
