create employment opportunities for its own citizens?
because they want to reduce the spread of the omicron variant of covid 19
It's the slippery slope.
They're a little piste-orf with us. plus ca change........
I'm sure other nations will still visit and keep the tourist industry going
//because they want to reduce the spread of the omicron variant of covid 19//

wanting and doing ( achieving ) are two different things
Brit govt has abandoned travel restrictions on the simple grounds they wont work

(not a complex argument : you want to keep it out by travel restrictions and if there are 200 000 infections already you arent gonna keep out diddly squat - cx argt dumbed down just for AB)

BUT

I reject out of hand the idea of fronsay ( french in french that is!) et restrictions et Macron = anti Brit automatically

I think the French authorities often think about French welfare incredz as tho that may be

jno: "create employment opportunities for its own citizens? " - what by forcing them to go skiing? think it through, this time of year is when the ski resorts make their dosh mainly from visitors, and The Brits are large chunk of that.

dougie/ZM you are tied for BA at the moment, the winner will be decided by the best pun from now!
Tora. There's a bullseye in the post ;-)
about 10% of skiers in France are British, so their absence won't destroy the industry. But as in Britain, locals may take advantage of a drop-off in foreign visitors to see more of their own country - or to take the chalet jobs usually filled by Brits.
jno. 9% of the skiers visiting France are brits and that is the highest number next to the French.
that would figure, I suppose, dannyk, France's other near neighbours mostly have Alps to ski in; Britain doesn't.
sorry, I've just realised the error you were pointing out - yes, 9% of visitors, not of all skiers. I don't think this will be a hammer blow to French industry.

we have the highlands laddie!
but for how long?
see, this is what Britain should be developing for when the neighbours lock their doors

Who needs France? There are plenty more places to ski in Europe - and the rest of the world. Their loss.
Who to give the BA to now Douglas has given you the cold shoulder and Zac's puns have gone downhill.
The UK recorded 90,000 new cases yesterday. Do expect France to put no restrictions on British travellers?

France is also facing a surge due to Omicron and so are making decisions to limit its spread. Contrast that with the UK who have just torn up our red list and is now letting in people from 12 countries who were previously restricted.
