Agreed. MPs can have maternity leave/maternity allowance so take it. Then if you want to come back to work, put your child in a nursery. Where i work, you have to have security clearance, and id be amazed if its not the same for HOC chamber. How does a baby get that?

A commons full of dozing creatures who wake up crying when they're either hungry or have soiled themselves?

no that is the House of Lords - ter daaah !
have we had that ?
I have to agree Kardashev it is ridiculous.

Yes, I am,my daughters do, many friends have. Plus I take a dog sometimes depending.
I wouldn't say HOC is the best environment for a baby, with all the shouting, although I thought it only included breastfed babies.... which the government themselves encourage. It's hard for them not to look like hypocrites either way.
your clients wouldn't mind you bringing in a child to their house while you wash them pixie?
Not at all, bednobs. They usually have more than one room.
well i guess that's the joy of being self employed.
Stella creasy however, is not.
It isn't just self-employed people though. Most of my friends aren't. Maybe it just depends on what works?
what work do your friends do that let them take their babies and children to work with them?
Carework and similar.
well flabber my gast. I don't know how many "Most" of your friends number, nor if they work in the community or care homes (different or the same) but it seems unprofessional (to me anyway) to have someone turn up to your house to provide care with a baby or dog in tow. I would also find it strange for care-home staff to take their children with them - what are you supposed to do if your baby needs somehthing while you are in the middle of giving personal care? or doing a manual evac? perhaps i'm just the odd one though
Perhaps. Most mothers are perfectly able to multitask and look after 2 people at the same time. It also depends on the clients' preferences and whether they enjoy it or not.
I take my littlest dog, to dog people sometimes, who have lost theirs. They get huge pleasure from her.
What is the difference between a Tory and a Labour childbirth in the House of Commons?
One can be terribly painful and sometimes almost unbearable, while the other is just having a baby...

Gulliver may be having contractions now.....
The US Senate allows Senators to attend with wee ones aged under one.
Pixie, your clients usually have more than one room. Does that mean you park a child in another room whilst you’re doing the job you’re being paid to do? Who keeps an eye on him/her? If you turned up at my house with a child in tow I would send you packing. Load of nonsense.
I strongly agree with Naomi.
What makes you think I would bring one to either of you?
Well I guess you would ask first Pixie, but I think it very strange. I have never known carers bring children with them, or even think it would be Ok.
Then I would never bring one to yours. You have reminded me... I need to take my grandson back to a 90 year old. She met him 4 months ago, and hasn't stopped asking about him since. She loves his smile. He is now walking around the furniture. My daughter will bring him- so she can also take him home as soon as needed. Babies are unpredictable!
Yes they are. Which is why they shouldn't be in the workplace. It's slightly different if it's a prearranged social visit and the mum usnt expecting to work such as you describe. I did that (took my baby into my work for my colleagues to coo over) when I was on mat leave. Nobody asked me to chair a meeting or do some photocopying at the same time
