It doesn't need to be severe - if people are self-testing positive & self-isolating because of it they may only be exhibiting mild symptoms which would not otherwise keep them off work.

Pick the statistic you fancy. I heard most clearly on R4 this morning that hospital cases for Covid were 50% less than this time last year.

A superspreader is good, if it does little damage. Immunises people, and the more that catch it, the less it needs to mutate.

they "have" omicrom, and what percentage are hospitalised "with" it?

There are a number so research the one you want.

I use Duckduckgo (And it can sit in Chrome if you prefer) or there is Swisscow.

Not only are they less geared to point you to where the company want you to go (Google is particularly bad for that) but they also respect you privacy more.

Ymg, search engines can only give you somebody else's opinion. Useful for us, but not exactly research or understanding.
Rad, because a virus "survives" and mutates most if it is threatened (like antibiotics are less effective, they have mutated). It has no use in killing or incapacitating its hosts. The best surviving ones, like colds, are harmless but infectious. This one is still learning.

By all accounts the vast number of Covid cases in hospital are only confirmed once the patient has been tested. People are being admitted for other conditions (fractures etc.), and then test positive for Covid. There is no distinction in the figures for the number of people admitted as a direct result of having Covid, and those found to have it once tested in hospital.
