Thrust into the world media spotlight when as a medical student I guess it would have been the last thing on his mind and almost laughable if suggested to him
Thank you Sir for your service to this country and tireless dedication to the advancement of medical knowledge and science
//I know I say this every time, but I disagree with athletes being given a medal for winning a medal.//
I tend to agree. I have no problem with them getting recognition at the end of their career, such as Sterling Moss or Ian Botham, but when "Sir" Andy Murray or "Sir" Alistair Cook are still playing their chosen sport, it seems a farce. As for giving an MBE to a 19 year old folowing a single tournament win (albeit a stunning one) is utterly ridiculous.

I disagree
For some whatever they won was ‘their time’ and may never have been seen again on a world stage
But as Brits whatever they won at that time undoubtedly inspired the next generation of tennis players or cyclists or rugby footballers to go in and emulate them
The productive life of a sports person(bar golf) is very finite and limited
Whatever they did in their brief time of glory no doubt inspired others to do the same
More power to them
Stickybottle, back in 2005 the entire England cricket team were given MBEs for the remarkable feat of beating Australia (in England) The captain and coach got CBEs.
A few months later the Scottish rugby team beat England. A Scot wrote to the papers "Can we look forward to our boys getting MBEs, since the criterion now seems to be beating someone you usually lose to?"

The monarchy were probably still smarting from Bannockburn and Stirling

What do I know, I told a junior to find another medical outlet as he had " the surgical expertise of a rutting goat". He became Professor of Surgery at the University of .........and apparently his surgical technique remains the same lol..lol.
nobody needed to wait for the report, Deskdiary. I knew right from the start that the WMD claims had to be nonsense (if Saddam had had WMD he'd have used them, he was that kind of guy). But Iran tricked the US into believing he had them, the UK fell in behind, and the nation clamoured for war. The only winner: Iran.
I'm just disgusted. And as for Gully, does he not realise that Tony was hardly Labour. And I also presume that he agreed with the war the nice Mr Blair took us into and the awful results.
