//That’s terrifying.//
Is it really? From the report:
“Some 157 children were admitted on the Bank Holiday Monday, 110 of whom were aged 5 or younger.”
I don’t know what are termed as “children” in this instance but there are around 12 million children aged under 15 in the UK. This means one child in about every 76,000 living here was admitted to hospital on that day. And of course there is no indication of how many of them had other underlying health conditions or how quickly or well they recovered. As well as that, overall some 60% of so-called “Covid” hospital admissions recently are patients who were admitted for something else but happened to test positive for Covid when they arrived and there is no reason to believe this percentage is any different among children. In short, you need to know a lot more than just that headline figure before you consider such events “terrifying.”
//Record numbers of children in hospital with what Deniers dismiss as "no worse than a common cold".//
The undisputable fact is that the overwhelming majority of Covid “sufferers” – especially children - experience either no symptoms at all and they go about their lives in ignorance of their “illness”, or they suffer symptoms no worse than a cold. If anybody is denying anything it is those who deny this fact. On the last day of 2021 it was estimated that around 4 million people in the UK had the virus. Yet there were just 14,000 in hospital. This is one in about 285, or 0.3%. So 99.7% required no hospital treatment.
This question (and in particular one of the answers) is indicative of the hysteria that continues to grip many people in this nation. At present this ailment is not a serious disease. A lot of people have it because it is highly transmissible, but most of them either don’t know or don’t care that they have it. The government has, it seems, finally accepted that its transmission cannot be prevented or even reduced. It needs now to concentrate on making arrangements to live with the virus and that means allowing people to go about their business normally and to stop mass testing of people who are not ill. Then those among the population still gripped with fear and anxiety and who feel "terrified" at headlines like the one quoted here might get a grip of their senses.
