This has already been covered in a separate thread.
Obviously in the light of the revelations about Mrs Lee this is embarrassing for Gardiner, but there’s no suggestion that there was anything untoward about these donations other than that they came from someone now known to be working as an influencer for the Chinese government, whose tentacles sadly are everywhere.

I'm sorry, but if you were going to spend that money to buy influence you'd want some kind of return on the investment. What possible value would Barry Gardiner be?
