Queen Camilla?

Camilla's popularity with the public is on the up. Should she, when the time comes, become Queen?

Personally, I think she's doing a good job so I would be happy to see her take her place beside Charles as his queen. What say you?

But look at how much the queen has scaled back her appearance at and attendance of events in those last 20 years
Trooping the colour being one obvious example
Do we want the next monarch to continue in the same vein ?

Hand it over immediately to William and add a bit of dynamism back to royal events
We need younger monarchs
Just as the queen was when she was crowned

Another interesting question - what will Camilla become if she outlives King Charles? She can't be Queen Mother because she's not the mother of King William.

Having quietly taken a back seat now for several years do you believe that a lady in her seventies would really want to be thrust back into the spotlight and have to be involved in all that pomp and ceremony ?

It's all very well saying let William be King, he might not want to be King just yet.
He will probably want to spend as much time with his young family as he can before he ascends to the throne.
Going back to the original question, yes, I do think Camilla should be Queen, and I expect Charles will do whatever he can to make sure she is.

It's interesting that he was given the choice of marrying a divorced woman whose ex-partner was still alive or being king. Prince Charles has married a divorced woman whose ex-partner is still alive; should this bar him from being king?

Is Camilla step-mother to William and Harry? I'm just not sure whether the age of children is relevant on re-marriage.

////Assuming Camilla outlives Charles, she will be given a different title after his death. At that point Prince William will become the king and Camilla will have a new role as the former Princess Consort or Queen Consort.


Traditionally, the widowed spouse of the former king is called the “dowager queen.” Queen Elizabeth’s mother, whose name was also Elizabeth, called herself “The Queen Mother” to distinguish herself from her daughter. But technically she was a dowager queen after King George VI died.////

That sort of nonsense stopped Edward from becoming king (which was good) & blighted the life of Princess Margaret (which was bad). The monarchy is as bad for the family as it is for the country!

naomi - yes, dowager is a given but sounds very old-fashioned, so I would expect an alternative to be used. It's unlikely I'll ever get to find out because of my age; it's just interesting to speculate.

They don't do it any more though, dave. William married a commoner, Harry married a (twice?) divorced woman, Princess Ann is divorced and remarried... we won't mention Andrew ... or his divorce.

The Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Margaret, William, Harry, Anne, Edward and Andrew all married "commoners" and in the case of the Queen a "foreigner". Much good it has done them.

Some would say the insult is exactly that i.e. he has been groomed for it yet his mother has seen fit to step aside in her dotage and hand over the reins
One can speculate for hours as to the reasons
As I say I am not bothered either way
I reckon that even when it happens that after a year or two Camilla will step back from certain duties
The queen did it whilst letting the junior royals shoulder a bit more
In light of events of the last three years those options have diminished rapidly
