A Desperate Boris will use the promise of Gongs to persuade party rebels
to back him over Partygate He will use the system to cling on to power.

there is something to be said for not having resignation honours. Why should people who wouldn't otherwise have been honoured suddenly be lavished just because a PM has departed?

if he promises gongs and the party backs him, then he won't resign - and QED there won't be any gongs.
