According to the TV news last night there are already 70,000 Ukrainians living in the UK - a surprising figure, to say the least. I wonder what their immigration status is?
Question Author
Quite a figure that GG

Not quite parity with the amount of oligarchs in London
I know on here people have been less than kind to the plight of those arriving in rubber dinghy’s on our south coast ( me included) young me particularly, what struck me yesterday was seeing same age young men being interviewed in Ukraine and in Bradfords Ukrainian population, these men wanted to enlist and fight for their country not run away from it, one young man in Kyiv wanted to get his wife and child to Poland ….but then he said it was duty to come back and fight for his homeland, such a difference imo
* young men*
There are a lot of Ukrainians living in Bradford who have been here for many years and have integrated well with the local communities.

Been my argument before Bobbisox

Fighting age males prepared to stand and fight for their homeland
That is sadly the price of democracy
Always has been
Lots of brave Ukrainian men are and will be doing the same

Some need to take a leaf out of their book instead of risking life and limb in the channel for the promise of an easy ride in the uk
We have a thriving Ukrainian Community here in Bolton, their Flag flies aloft today and our Town Hall will be lit for them tonight.

Tokens of course but out arms and hearts are open.
On the lunchtime News footage was shown of fighting age men being turned back from the Polish border. Only women and children being allowed in. Some young men got in overnight but they've now clamped down.
Isn't it all so sad. Just dreadful.
As Naomi says, sad and dreadful and all caused by one megalomaniac.
Also on the News were several different people all saying they felt abandoned by the rest of the world and had sadly realised they were on their own and could not expect help from anywhere. They dismissed the sanctions saying they were too late and nowhere near enough to make a difference. They were collecting money to try and buy weapons to literally fight for their street.
I don't know how many we can welcome to the UK but it may be similar to that of Afghans last year.

He is a terrorist and needs wiping out but the question is how. No simple solution.
Thousands of Ukrainians live in the UK and have done for years
Sad thing is Tiggs, he’s almost threatened to use his nuclear weapons in a chilling speech, to those that use anything against him, I said to Mr B last night Why can’t NATO fly Jets and hit his residence…?
Because he will retaliate with a nuclear strike was the answer , he’s holding the West to ransom
I know, Bobbi, that's why there is no simple solution. Other than trying to cripple them financially we have little hope in doing anything else and many countries rely on their resources.

It's a hopeless situation.
cant house the people we already have, let alone all the dinghy arrivals and our homeless...what build more hotels.
The "plight" of those arriving in rubber dinghies is that they had the misfortune of finding themselves in France. One has little sympathy with that; and positively reject their attempt to illegally enter this country.

I'm sure someone will make a case for taking a portion of genuine refugees in these circumstances, but even then we aren't the nearest safe country, so it'd be help beyond the call of duty, as it were.

As for where to put them, well if we returned to France all those illegal immigrants who came from there, there'd be lots of 4 and 5 star hotels with vacancies.
He could threaten a nuclear strike but he must be aware of the consequences of MAD. He may find himself facing a revolution from the Russian army if he went down that path.
