We appear to be agreeing that black politicians better represent black people ... are we saying that white politicians are therefor better placed to represent white people? Indeed are we saying that any characteristic in a politician, whether it be religion, sexual inclinations, or any other defining "attribute" is best suited to voters of the same set of distinguishing features? Must we have only blind or disabled MPs and Councillors for the blind or disabled voters.
//Given that she ran for election, I'm guessing she chose democracy.//
I think, given the position comes with an £85k salary plus (considerable) expenses and allowances, that may have swayed her decision. I saw her on TV saying she could not believe she was now an MP and had to pinch herself. I'm sure she did.
//Why shouldn’t be highlighted//
I'll tell you why. If a white MP had been elected by a predominantly white electorate, and you made the same remark, adding "Surely they have more of an understanding of the issues experienced by white people in these rural areas/affluent suburbs/pleasant market towns [delete or add as appropriate], how do you think that would have gone down?
