Starmer will also survive as Labour leader but lose to the Tories in the GE. Labour will then turn to the Left again, making it a spent force. Then the Parties of the Left and Centre, including the SNP, will have to co-operate, the only way to beat the Tories. But they will be riven by internal power struggles and, in an echo of the SDP/Liberal Alliance, it will come to nothing. After the country has recovered from the devastating affect of Covid on public finances, and the inflation caused by the Russian-Ukraine crisis, voters will turn to the Greens and the Lib-Dems but not in sufficient numbers to defeat the Conservatives. Boris will not stand for a third term and will be succeeded by another centrist leader, thereby denying the Left any hope of even a meagre victory. Labour will then disappear, to be replaced by a centrist force that will, again, lose to the Tories.
Once the full weight of the Gray report has landed and the press get to pore over all the gory pictures there is no way Johnson will be able to remain, future probable FPN’s aside.
Also, when does the Parliamentary process into his alleged misleading conclude its findings?
All this in combination with losing nearly 500 councillors and the slow trickle of the backbench malcontents will almost certainly spell the end of his tenure.
But who to replace him?
Since the tax avoidance and green card fiasco it’s almost as if Sunak has disappeared off the radar and is certainly maintaining a very low profile.
As for Labour, if Starmer has to fall on his sword then maybe Rayner would have to follow suit, so who got them?
Thornberry? Probably far too early for Streeting, he’s one for the future I feel.
The only ones feeling smug right now will be the Lib Dems, understandably so too.

//The only ones feeling smug right now will be the Lib Dems, //
If they are they're nincompoops. Come a General Election they'll be right back in the doldrums.
You mean like they were in North Staffs recently?
As some political commentators have surmised, the electorate are fed up of the 2 main parties lurching from one scandal to another.
Ignore yesterday at your peril, everything thus far points to a hung Parliament and as I said, the longer Johnson stays in Number 10 the greater the odds on no clear majority. Take the blinkers off and have a look around, listen to what former government ministers are saying about the PM.

I'm looking.
Maybe you’re not looking hard enough?
Relegated to 3rd in Scotland, completely ousted in Wales with no Conservative council at all, a PM mired in controversy with more to come, under scrutiny and investigation for misleading parliament, public incredulity at a flat renovation, Chancellor with dodgy tax dealings and backbenchers telling him he is not fit for the office he holds. A trenche of high profile resignations of ministers and advisers who were very close to him.
Gray report in full still to come and probably more FPN’s. Which chapters of this whole sorry saga are not registering with you?
Or are you just completely ignoring them with and because of a bunker mentality?
