One for disabled travellers in Europe to keep an eye on.

Conversely ….

//The British government allows the use of French blue badges in disabled parking spaces anywhere in the country. The same is true for badges from any other European Union member state. //

How mean. Yet another example of the pettiness - and spitefulness - of the EU.

Ellipsis
You are wasting your time copy and pasting the article.

Naomi has read it but clearly does not understand it.

Ellipsis, they mean our ministers are talking to them about it - not that our government is considering changing the status of any badges. As I said, the only places that our disabled people are unsure of are those countries considering this mean-spirited move.
Question Author
Gromit, I understand it very well indeed. You don't want to.

The countries are believed to be resistant to recognising British badges because it is difficult for local officials and parking wardens to verify the authenticity of non-EU badges, a problem EU badges do not have because they are of a common design and part of the same scheme.
When Britain left the EU, the design of the British badge was changed.

The EU 'stars' logo was removed.... and that's causing confusion? Righto ...
I blame the Minister of State (Minister for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency) for this mess. He should have been working with our former partners to ensure a smooth and hassle free transfer of EU and British law.
What [has] he been doing all year ?
bhg481 "These are all things which will need to be sorted if/when Scotland gets independence."

I don't think the majority of Scots want (more) independence which I think will be proven next year if Ms Sturgeon gets her way.
dave - I agree absolutely. I was just pointing out that, should it happen, there will be many "trivial" things which will be overlooked and then need sorting out.
Britain will have to negotiate a deal.

That's what Brexit means: negotiating thousands of deals with many different countries. I don't see the problem. Just do it.
The EU and Europe are completely different entities.
Switzerland is in Europe, but not in the EU.

Switzerland recognises EU blue badges. But post Brexit there is no provision for the UK blue badge. This is not because Switzerland is being petty, but because our two Government’s haven’t got round to sorting it out.
If a ticket is issued abroad simply ignore it.

Anyway, what are Brits doing abroad anyway? We've got everything we could possibly wish for on our wee island.

Not so. UK blue badges are recognised in Switzerland.

//You can use your UK Blue Badge when travelling in some EU countries, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.//

Switzerland ISN’T in the EU.

EU Blue badges ARE recocognised.
That Government advice is dated 2008. When the UK Green Badge was an EU one.
The chair, I don't think it is because of this "The countries are believed to be resistant to recognising British badges because it is difficult for local officials and parking wardens to verify the authenticity of non-EU badges, a problem EU badges do not have because they are of a common design and part of the same scheme." because they accept US ones and ones from some other countries.
We can't have our cake and eat it. If we want to have convenient reciprocal arrangements on things like blue badges and easy access to Europe at our borders then we needed to stay in the union!
The "US and some other countries" may have sent the EU a copy of their designs. Just a thought.

Gromit, you said: //Switzerland recognises EU blue badges. But post Brexit there is no provision for the UK blue badge. //

I know Switzerland isn't in the EU so I've no idea why you brought it into the mix at all - but you did and I responded. The link I posted was updated September 2021.
Just change the colour .. Blue is a nasty colour.
if they can get there hur hur hur ....
