There is evidence that sanctions are having no effect on Russia.
The collspse of the Rouble was widely predicted and expected. In reality the Rouble is the best performing currency in 2022 and rising and stronger than ever.

Sanctions advocate/ activist finds evidence that sanctions work. In other shock news. There's no evidence they work, or exist, in Saudi Arabia or China.

Yesterday Russia:
Carpet bombed Mikolaiv, circulated an explicit video of a the torture and murder of a Ukrainian POW, user extraordinarily violent language against POWs in its London embassy Twitter account (I’m not hanging - sp to speak - the Olenivka massacre on them as it may have been the Donetsk loonies acting off their own bat)
It’s now recruiting people from prisons and the poorest parts of Russia for their war effort, all evidence of how the disastrous miscalculation of Feb 24 is backfiring on all fronts.
For a long time now Putin hasn’t actually cared about growth in the Russian economy. But what is happening now is sooner or later going to lead to a final reckoning

//The analysis examined a range of data from outside of the Kremlin’s influence, including non-public analyses by investment banks, high-frequency data, releases from international partners and Russian documents.
It found the retreat of more than 1,000 companies from Russia had knocked out revenues and investments exceeding $600bn, about 40pc of Russian GDP. Analysts said these exits may not have an immediate impact but would force Russia into a “dramatic, forced” economic transformation. The companies also had around a million local staff.
“The findings of our comprehensive economic analysis of Russia are powerful and indisputable: not only have sanctions and the business retreat worked, they have thoroughly crippled the Russian economy at every level,” they said.//

If you consider sanctions against South Africa in the late Seventies and Eighties, sanctions against the Soviet Union after their invasion of Afghanistan, sanctions currently in force against Afghanistan, North Korea and Iran it is difficult to conclude that they are effective. Of course, they make poor people in relatively poor countries worse off but they have little effect on the regimes we dislike. In some ways they are automatically counterproductive. They allow regimes, like Iran and North Korea, to disparage The West and play the victims' card.
Vladimir Putin is reported to be the richest man on Earth, sanctions are never going to effect him personally, or his cronies, but they are having a devastating effect on the everyday lives of ordinary Russians, which is leading to growing resentment against the war, (so I read) & many of those that can, are flocking out of the country.
“The dependency of gas etc of the west is only temporary. Once the west has moved off that dependency Russia will have only a few customers and no leverage”
Exactly. Boris Johnson put it well when he talked of putting up with the short term pain. Ultimately Russia will destroy itself with these tactics
