The report doesn't say it's 'the majority'. It says 4 in 10, and the same is being reported elsewhere.

But they are not exploiting loopholes, Ken. They are taking advantage of UK law as it stands and of the fact that the UK is a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The UK's Human Rights Act (HRA) provides virtually a mirror image of the ECHR and its introduction was supposed to see matters determined in our own courts without recourse to the ECHR court in Strasbourg. It never worked out that way and all that the introduction of the HRA did was to give applicants an additional route to make their appeals (see the very recent case of Archie Battersbee which ping-ponged between the two). Both make a number of very vague and wide ranging provisions which say that people are entitled to remain here on the flimsiest of evidence in very dubious and spurious circumstances. That is why so many attempts to deport people fail and that is why the infamous "Rwanda" scheme will eventually be kicked into touch.
The government is fooling people (how unusual!). Unless they repeal the HRA and withdraw as a signatory from the ECHR nothing will change. They have no intention of doing either, or of physically preventing the rubber boats from landing. Unless and until they do all their bluster is wind and puff and they might as well charter a weekly ferry as I suggest.

Perhaps there has been a huge change in the country of origin of the illegal immigrants, but somehow I doubt it.
In December it was Iranian (29%), Iraq (20%), Sudan (11%), Syria (11%) and Vietnam (9%). 7 months later they are claiming 40% are now from Albania.
The 40% figure quickly rings out as bogus when you realise only 1000 out of 18,000 are allegedly Albanian.

The small print reveals the ‘survey’ was for a 6 week period not a true survey of the 7 months so far this year.
Not sure what the motive is for peddling this lie, but a clue might be in what IDS was blowing hot air about…

13,000 people have come since Patel announced the Rwanda deterrent. It has already failed. The government are wasting a whole lot of resources, time and money, on a vanity project that isn’t going to solve the problem one iota.

Gromit, you're ranting and raving and swearing but you don't know which period this survey applies to. You can't just pluck out a figure you've seen somewhere and assume that's relevant. In fact the figures apply to a period in June/July.
