The virus has been detected as present in the sewage of a number of London boroughs. These areas have a particular demographic make up, and vaccination uptake is well below average and below what is considered to be an effective percentage to protect the populace. Some of the areas identified are, Barnet, Brent, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, and Waltham Forest. The less effective polio treatment that Sandy mentions is the oral immunisation treatment which is popular in some African and Asian Countries, where there is a population that contains negative attitudes to vaccinations,that are part of the beliefs of a religion.

There was a "warning" issued about personal hygiene and food handling care earlier this year in these areas. The outbreak in New York has no, as yet, link to anyone in London; but the "authorities" do need another emergency to distract us and health crises look like the prefered option.

18.35, sorry Togo, I don’t want to appear rude but I’m on my phone so I can’t copy and paste the bit of that I want to address. Because many vaccines contain pork products Jews are more likely to accept those given intravenously than those given orally. They view the two options differently. Strict Muslims, however, are likely to reject all. There is also though, as you say, a mistrust of vaccinations within those communities.
