UK .NHS, now ranks at 16th out of 35 European Countries. Nhs is now on par with Estonia and the Czech Republic .And Ireland performed even worse .
What has happened ? is it down to an inferior Government with an incompetent PM,?

Can you post a link to the rankings you are using.
Don't think we've ever been 'world leaders' in health outcomes.
Well, according to this we are tenth worldwide, and sixth in Europe.

I'd be interested to find out where Gulliver got his contrary information, so I can read that report.
Mozz: Don't doubt the validity of your example but it uses a much wider definition of 'health care' than does the UK government and the NHS.
Paigntonian, it was just one I found on Google, I'm sure there is a variety of different reports available. I was actually trying to find a report to back up Gully's post, but found nothing of the sort.
//is it down to an inferior Government with an incompetent PM,?//

No it's not. The Prime Minister and the government do not run the health service. They simply provide it with stupendous amounts of money in ever-increasing volumes.

Running it is the job of the armies of directors and managers it has (who, coincidentally, seem to increase in number in a direct proportion to the amount of extra cash provided). The NHS was never "the envy of the world" and no other country has seen fit to replicate it. It does not need extra money (which is the only thing the government can provide). It needs proper management.
I found a Daily Mail report from 2018 regarding the Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI) which appears to match the claims and includes the phrase, "And the UK is now 'on par with Estonia and the Czech Republic in the middle of the field'."

Of course, it could be that a more recent report is similar.
The NHS is a marvellous idea which cannot work, it is a health service with a country attached.
As the earlier post shows, I meant, 2019.
Mozz: Point taken, again. As for Gulliver blaming a PM who has only been at the helm for a couple of years is plain daft. The NHS spend is vast and has outstripped inflation.
I expect our position in a world league table hasn’t changed much, if at all.
We have had similar threads before and it turned out to be a phoney headline.
Let's not forget the the NHS spend a £billion on 'Connections' to link GPs and other providers with hospitals and social care. It didn't work. No-one was fired. There was no sanction against the private consortium tasked by the NHS with the project. But my favourite is 'Putting Patients First', a hugely expensive PR project that wasted £millions. Where else would you put patients? Second, third?

Indeed, better to look at the bigger picture of 12 consecutive years of Conservative government?

Maybe Johnson is coming under fire from the OP because of this?

Being on a par with Estonia is quite a compliment I’d have said.
It has some of Europe’s most advanced systems
But when you’ve got this sort of mismanagement from a Trust that was already in special measures…….

Nice work if you can get it!

When you look at the NHS, that question is not so daft as it seems. Here's an example of the wanton profligacy of the outfit:

https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/nick-ferrari/nhs-bureaucratic-explosion-managers/

There seems to be limitless funds for bureaucrats and for those in non-medical jobs, whilst the front line is suffering decline. As well as that, there seems to be swathes of the organisation devoted to minority issues such as how to address women (when "women" will do perfectly). Anyone looking from the outside would indeed wonder where its priorities lie.
we were lucky
post empire we were punching above our weight for 50y
mozz: "I'd be interested to find out where Gulliver got his contrary information, so I can read that report. " - which is why I always ask him for a link so we can start from the same point.
