What an amazing lady... it feels slightly unreal and incredibly sad. Every love and respect to her.
RIP xxx

She was the most elegant and dignified woman who ever lived.
I hadn't quite anticipated being so emotional myself. Maybe because I thought she would have a few more months left in her at least, it all seemed so sudden. Then, I guess at the last minutes, as 6pm came and went with no updates, I foolishly allowed myself to think she might hang on.

In any case, the end of an era that lasted more than twice my lifetime. And, whatever else can be said about the monarchy as an institution, she at least understood her role better than anyone had a right to hope for.

In your opinion, of course.

IMHO, the most elegant and dignified person who ever lived was my mother.

Farewell to the best Monarch we've ever had. A very sad occasion, especially for those of us who've followed her since her coronation. May she rest in well-deserved peace.
Rest In Peace, Your Majesty.

And, dear members, please do not use this thread to express your views on the monarchy. Other threads would be more appropriate for that, perhaps in "Society and Culture". This is a "Rest In Peace" thread and respect is politely requested.

The Nation mourns the passing of The Queen and one family is in mourning for their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother - she was one amazing lady.
I agree, Jim... I'm not particularly a "royalist", but she was exceptional.. I came to my sister's to wait for the announcement, as it seemed clear she had already passed away by then. We both were in tears and needed a hug, even with all the "warning" they gave. Most of us have never known any different... an impossible act to follow, I think.
davebro, your view is well worth discussing, I would have thought, but maybe in a thread of its own and maybe not tonight?
I'm no royalist, but a remarkable woman, who deserves all the love and reverence being shown. A true servant of her country, through to the very end.

Rest In Peace Ma'am.
Rest now your Majesty. You have served your country devotedly and you will be remembered.
I'm so numb. I can't process she has gone. Poor Charles, he has a very hard job ahead to follow her, a wonderful lady, respected world wide. I hope we will be kind to him- KingCharles III.

Whether he becomes HM King Charles III or HM George VII he will have such as hard act to follow.

What an astonishing woman his mother was.
Even though it was expected, I was still shocked and saddened when it was announced and I wept like a baby. RIP lovely Queen Elizabeth, we will never see your like again. Philip (your rock) is waiting with open arms. God bless you Ma'am xx
we don't know what his name will be yet, Miss T. It's long been rumoured that he doesn't want to follow Charles I (executed for obstinacy) and Charles II (libertine, spent the GDP on his mistresses).

He could call himself King Arthur II but that might be raising the burden of expectations quite high!
RIP Your majesty and thank you x
